Got invited to a private showing of the Wolf Cinema Projectors today.

There were the new "entry level" $25k DCL-200FD and the $70k bigger brother projector in the room. We got to watch various movie presentations on both.

I've got to say I was very, very impressed with the DCL-200 and was simply blown away by their Xenon, bigger brother projector. I've never seen such impressive video quality before. Both had incredible colors, contrast, deep blacks and amazing depth and dimensionality to the image that literally looked 3D with images popping off the screen. Wow...

The $70k projector combined all the best video qualities with a very smooth, film like quality that simply pulled you into the movie.. The optics/glass had much to do with it but the processor was also very impressive with upscaling the regular DVD stuff. High resolution was out of this world.

Well, I was very happy with my Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro plasma this whole time.

The Wolf Projectors are something else.

Not quite sure yet. The upper end models are quite large and need to be cooled by an external fan and ductwork system. The price is well, not exactly cheap, are they...

But I think this says it all. "This customization doesn't come cheap: Wolf Cinema projectors are priced from $65,000 to $110,000. But comparing the Wolf Cinema DCX-1000i projector I recently tested with the ones we normally review here is like comparing a 20,000-square-foot architect-designed mansion with a tract home."

Saw the rather large Wolf projector at AXPONA this year -- cooling w/dual 6 or 8 inch ducts, large fan, etc., but it was throwing the video at least 50+ feet to a 15 or 20 foot screen & was the best I've ever seen, period. Very impressive indeed.

I concur, I saw it at a demo here...all I can say is wow!

I definitely don't have the room for that bad boy in this house, but maybe one day...

I read in the past that Wolf had gone out of business, but it wasn't true. I read it again the other day, but I dont know if this was the same mistruth repeated, or a new story.

There are certain manufacturers who are confounded by how much better Wolf projectors are than their own who insist on spreading these myths.

I think of the president of one manufacturer who came to town and insisted on a shootout at a Wolf dealer. He spent 3 hours calibrating his pj and then tried to recalibrate the Wolf before the comparison. Luckily the dealer called me and the reset was avoided. According to the dealer the comparison was "embarrassing." but not for Wolf. Also according to the dealer the same manufacturer's regional manager returned this week with a new power supply and suggested that they set their pj to the "Wolf setting." Results:improved performance but still far below a Wolf.

Fact is that numerous manufacturers continue to say we are out of business but somehow don't want to talk about our picture or our stellar reliability. If Mark Twain was alive today he would own a Wolf.

I stepped into the Wolf room at CES twice; what I saw I liked very much. Finally something worth viewing that can give my G90/Lumagen a run for the money.

It was "Really on Point"
