New MC462
Ron Cornelius at McIntosh told me this connection is acceptable and will not harm the amp. I have tried it and it really makes the highs much stronger compared to using the 4 ohm taps. It also gives stronger bass compared to using the 8 ohm taps.

What did you finally settle with and why ?

8 ohm tap. There was slightly more bass when using it over the 4 ohm tap.

I ordered one in September and was quoted 60-90 days. It arrived on day 59, so I'm happy.

I've done something of the opposite, using the 4-ohm taps to drive bass and the 2-ohms for mids and tweeters. I did this to try to tame a pair of fairly bright, power-hungry speakers. The amp wasn't up to the task in the end, but configuring it this way did improve the system's sound as I heard it.

So how do you like it so far?

Just an FYI for any members who are about to order an MC462. The Magnolia A/V in Metairie, Louisiana has one in stock. It was on hold for me as I had a deposit down on it, but at the last minute cancelled it and ordered an MC1502 instead.
No matter where you may live, if you have a Magnolia A/V nearby they can have this MC462 shipped to your store with no waiting. Here's a pic of the actual amp.

It will be there for when you decide to return the MC1502! [emoji12]. Just kidding, I’m a little biased since I have the MC462. Enjoy your MC1502 and please let us know what you think of it.

I absolutely will. This was a tough decision to make and I went back and forth on it for days. The 1502 is a statement amp for me and in the end I know I'm going to be happy with it.
