Default HS-Link

I've got an tempting offer for a DC-37, so I'm currently testing it at home. It's connected to my DP-550 via an Accuphase HS-Link cable.

When listening to a SACD, the frequency is displayed correctly at the DC-37, however the sound is sometimes slighly distorted or even missing with e.g. a OPUS Hybrid SACD.

The DP-550 is playing it without any problem, so it seems to be a HS-Link problem.

I've no clue whether its a problem of the DP-550, the DC-37 or eventually the cable.

Does anybody have any idea or similar experience?

Jörg

not sure, but I don't think you can get the high res signal from your SACD player to the DAC. Normally this is a downsampled signal. (CD's should work fine, or better a streamer)

SACD should be better with the DAC in your DP550

The DSD export works with HS-Link, even with 5,6648 MHz, if everything is o.k.. The DC-37 DAC is similar to the DP-720 DAC and should be superior to the DP-550.

ok, I thought that was not possible, maybe only over SPDIF this restiction is there.

I was not disputing the DC-37 DAC is better than the DP-550, only when the signal is downsampled (which is not the case according you)

As far as I know DP-550 playing only DSD64 and not DSD128
Or I missing something?

btw-as DP-550 owner I'm interesting how big is the difference with DC-37?

there is no down sampling of the SACD layer when played via the DC37 via HS-Link from your DP-550.
What cable are you using for the HS-Link connection?

I'm not sure what the relevance of this is. Can you really get DSD128 from a SACD??

I had a chat with the maintenance guy of the German Accuphase distributor. Due to multi format/multi layer SACD and CD not conforming the specifications, CDPs or other gear get a kind of "confused".

Hard to say at the moment. The offered DC-37 was only switched on once or twice before I've got it. TMO it needs some more time to burn in.
When comparing CD/SACD playing between DP-550 and DC-37 (DP-550 connected via cinch to C-3850 parallel to HS-Link connection DP-550 to DC-37) I'm observing more precsision when listening to the DC-37 now.
According to the experts here, the use of another HS-Link cable as the Accuphase shall be better, e.g. a AQ Diamond.

That's what you can expect.
The analog interconnects between DP-550 / DC-37 and C-3850 will determine about the achievable quality of the signal.
My advice is to use the best interconnects you can afford (e.g. AQ WEL Signature XLRs)

Yep.
But also see above.
