For me, if planning to keep the amp for long I'd get Ref150 (more versatile), but in your case, if happy with current sound (enough drive), moreover as 2nd amp to alternate with your A70, I'd just keep the Ref75 - great sound and less tubes to care for.
Thanks bvdiman-- i still have a few days to give it some serious thought.

I had both amps, both are fantasitic soundwise and build for eterenity. Measurement power results for A 70 are on 4 Ohm 223 Watt and on 8 Ohm 122 Watt.
P 6100 measurements were on 4 Ohm 289 Watt and on 8 Ohm 164 Watt.
So dB wise there is almost no difference at all (ca. 1 dB).

I kept the A 70 because I love the digital power display.

Best regards

Martin

PS: Soundwise I couldn´t hear no differences at all, but I didn´t do a blind test. So it is only guessing.

Interesting. Thank you for the info! My speakers are a 6 Ohm load which dip down to 4 Ohms (according to an engineer at JBL that I recently talked to.) It looks like the A-70 puts out a good amount of power to really drive these babies.

Again, I don't want to make an expensive mistake and get an underpowered amp that will clip at high or higher volumes. This is what happened when I tried the First Watt J2 (25wpc into 8 Ohms) You would think that would be enough power for a 94db sensitivity speaker, but it really was not...

I really want to like this unit...it looks great and is great on paper. I just want to be sure that this is a safe buy.

Don´t worry Dave. I think you will be very happy. I drive a Magico S1 (measured with 84dB sensitivity) with my Accuphase A 70 in a 65m2 room. So you should be more as happy with your loudspeakers which have 94dB sensitivity.
And if is not loud enough buy a seconed A 70...

Best regards

Martin

Hi,
The A70 is more as enough!!!! o problem! the 70Watt class A from Accuphase are very very really/true watt (Accuphase 70Watt are 120watt class A from other brand! not only for power but for stability, linear, SOUND!!!
-> class A70 can you drive a Focal Scala without any problem...

buy a second A70? uhmmm ok have the "mono" buttom but the damping factor is ?? 100 (i dont know) with 2x A70 your damping factor go to 50 !!!!

and purchase a second A70 after 6 month is not a good idea for me. -> you go have a a channel with the full burned A70 and the other channel with a sound much different!

Class A is for Me the nirvana with amplifier! a Vitus SS25 (25 class A) are enough to drive a Magico S5!
