Talking P-6100 or A-70?

Ok, I talked to an engineer at JBL and he said the S4700s dip down to 4 Ohms. The speakers are rated at 6 Ohms. Also, he recommended no less than 75 Wpc into 8 Ohms for an amp. He then recommended 300 Wpc into 8 Ohms if I want the speakers really open up. My Bryston amp is 300Wpc into 8 Ohms, but is not nearly as good in the mids/highs as an Accuphase amp. Going by what he is saying, and I agree with him despite the speakers' efficiency, that the P-6100 is the better choice for an amp than the A-70. So, which would sound better and why. I had my heart set on the A-70, but if it's gonna be clipping on me, I don't see why not getting the P-6100. However, the P-6100 is a bit long in the tooth and probably will be replaced eventually. On the other hand, I listen to mostly classic rock at a high volume. So, decisions, decisions, lol.

Btw, according to the A70 brochure, it puts out 131W into 8 ohm and 232W into 4 ohm.

The 6100 is 110W at 8 ohm and 220W at 4 ohm. Assuming Accuphase underrates their amps, that'll be ~200W and ~400W respectively. I don't know if that's a huge difference compared to the A70.

i had a pair of $25,000 monoblocks that was rated at 220w at 8 ohms. And i replaced it with A70 accuphase.

I didnt miss the power one bit. The a70 was just as powerful, and even had better control of the woofers than the 220w amps.

One thing about the A70 is the refinement and the macro/microdynamics that you wont get with the P6100.

My vote is still A70.

your room at 15 x 20 is not that big mine is 28 x 20.. you will just be fine with the a70. trust me, those suckers are damm powerful.

i had another friend who had a tube amp with 140watts. $10,000 unit.
He replaced it with a old E550 30w class a accuphase. Couldnt be happier. The 30w had more control, power and punch than the 140w tube amps...

accuphase are very conservatively rated. by the time they clip and if they clip, your ears will be hurting

Ok, thanks, I just want to make sure I am making the right choice. Both the A-70 and P-6100 are not cheap, and I don't want to "get stuck" with an amp that is not right for my speakers.

The a70 will give you smiles. So refine so powerful. It's fantastic! It even is more refine than a tube amp am currently auditioning.
