I have a C2300 in one room and a MX120 in the HT. The MX120 is a fine preamp. So I'm sure the MX121 would be as well. There is a MX122 now you might want to investigate

I prefer to buy a generation behind on SSP's because of the depreciation. I have no problem buying their amps new but SSP's are in a category of depreciation I can't handle.

My brand new MX121 arrived today. Wow! Talk about a huge difference from my 13 year old SSP I was using. I can't believe I waited this long to upgrade. I was going to post a picture but it doesn't appear this forum is allowing me.

For true 2 channel music, the MX121 will not keep up, so it comes to how important stereo music is to you.

As an SSP, the MX121 is great. It beats out anything that Denon or Marantz has to offer or even Rotel.

As for your questions, I believe the MX121 does have some level of treble/bass control but it is thru its menu system. It does come with a microphone and a stand for Audyssey use.

So I'm bringing up an old thread.

I have a MX121 and love it. I had a MX119 and loved it too. I'm not one to stay up on the video side of things so staying behind a few years on this line of products works perfectly for me. I Don't have a 4K TV and I Listen to TV as two channel.

I'm curious how you wire up the MX121 as this "pass thru mode". I have other preamps and amps that I would like to use with this feature. With pass through, are you skipping the internal DAC of the MX121?

thanks

jc

Also, what is the DAC chipset in the MX121?

By pass thru one is describing a situation where one of the inputs on your preamp is set for unity gain. In other words, it passes thru the preamp to your amplifier without anything being done to the signal. This allows your surround sound processor to make volume adjustments etc.

It bypasses the preamp. The signal is coming from the MX121 so it does bypass it. The path would be MX121 out its Front Left/Front Right outputs to input of your preamp and then out it main output to your amp.

Your preamp would need to have a "theater mode" to be used in this way. Lots of them let you designate one of its inputs for this feature.

Which preamp to you have etc?

Ok. So I got confused on what you were describing. You are using the pass thru on the preamp. I was thinking you were using some feature on the MX121 for the pass thru.

My bad.
