Platter options aside, I think the MT2 is otherwise the most attractive McIntosh turntable to date. Illuminated platter would have been icing on the cake.

For what it’s worth I think McIntosh have missed a massive sales opportunity. I saw the pictures of this earlier this year with the illuminated platter, what happened to it? Maybe it’s a good product but at 5K in the U.K. it has tough competition.

Perhaps the redesign influenced the price; I wouldn't be surprised.

Based on the 3rd pic on the McIntosh site their does appear to be a green illumination under the platter. Also looks like a glass-top on the plinth. Very nice.

So, I’m reading through Mac’s owners manual and find myself confused. It’s states for the supplied cartridge, Sumiko BP#2, to connect via MC and set load resistance to 1000ohms. But also states compatible for MM as well. What would be optimal/correct for this cartridge. Could someone with more experience look at the specs for both and let me know. Still learning..

Thank you!

MC --

It can also be used with an MM input if the preamp doesn't have a MC input appearance. Your C2300 does; so use the MC and set impedance to your liking.

Bob

Thanks Bob. What difference would I see setting at 1000 ohms vs say 500ohms? What does the resistance change? I need a turntables for dummies book...

Dial it down to 500 and see for yourself -- could be duller or bright -- sort of like what's best 4 ohms or 8 ohms.

Since it's a HO cartridge, you can always try it thru the MM stage and set it for 47K.

Plenty of options available.

Let your ears decide.

Best Sir,

Bob

Thank you!

I had the Mcintosh MT 5 with the same Sumiko BP #2 Cartridge and I tried it between 25 OHMS and 50 OHMS , but it seemed dead/dull and very flat to me........I Loaded it to 1000 Ohms as per the Mcintosh Owners Manual and the diff was night and day......it really opened up alive.

Finally have it up and running. Had a local turntable friend help with setup and adjustments to dial everything in and all is well. I’m new to vinyl, so giving a specific review for the MT2 would be difficult. I can say that vinyl has a “Different sound” even to my ear and I’m really enjoying it. IMG_3193.jpg
