Default Symposium Ultra platform vs $69 Auralex Isolation platform

I had a Symposium Ultra with Stillpoint Ultra's under my DÁgostino Stereo amp for quite a while. the Ultra platform used to be under my turntable, but my $100 granite platform and compression springs had superior results. the Ultra platform sounded nice and was better than the Dag amp sitting directly on the floor.

I then read about Auralex Gramma Amp or Loudspeaker Isolation Platform and @ $69 they were worth a try.

My expectations were low to be honest. The bass was tighter, vocals clearer as well as the mid range and top end more open. Overall a lot better than the much more expensive Ultra platform.

After living with this for the last 6 months, I decided to go back to the Ultra Platform. After 2 tracks I comparison the Symposium was less detailed and overall seemed a homogenised musical presentation.

My wife was helping me here and we put the amps back onto the Gamma and even my wife said the music was so much better sounding now. These $69 Auralex Gramma Amp or Loudspeaker Isolation Platform are going nowhere.

they might be cheap, but give the Auralex Gramma Amp or Loudspeaker Isolation Platform a try and you may save 1000's

Cool. I'll have to look into those. I have some Auralex bass traps in my room.

BTW, that looks like a Conrad-Johnson Premier 8 off to the right. Do you still listen to that?

I agree...I the C-J Premier 8 is an awesome looking amp!

The D'Agostino's pretty nice, too. Love the steampunk look.

So, has anybody else tried any Auralex isolation devices?

I have their SubDude-II under my subwoofer for a few years. This is an awesome thing. It made the sub sound deeper, punchier and more articulate.
Together with Symposium Rollerblock HDSE, which I placed between the sub (instead of it's own supports) and the SubDude, it is a killer combination!

P. S. I was looking at Symposium padz and platforms. But if Auralex provide similar (or even superrior) results, I would definitely change my mind and try Gramma and/or MoPADs/ProPADs instead.

I've got a pair of them under my subs. Two thumbs up!

I use a pair of Auralex subwoofer platforms underneath both of my REL subs. Fantastic tweaks for the price of admission. My biggest takeaway is how the bass is slightly cleaner and faster, little less sloppy. You're able to hear bass lines a bit clearer and tighter then with the subs directly on the floor. We have a suspended floor over an unfinished basement, so YMMV depending on what type of subfloor you have. I would imagine the results wouldn't be quite so obvious is you're room was on a concrete slab.
