Well you can certainly go with an active crossover and another power amplifier (plus two more power cords, two more sets of interconnects and another pair of speaker cables, but that's a pretty big $$ jump from just upgrading the crossovers. I think the crossover upgrade will apply to a different user than going fully active.

The passive update will cost about $600. Going full active two way will probably be in the $5000 -10,000 range.

Say there Tonepub,

How did the Maggie mod go on your 1.6's? Maybe I missed your responce. When do you think you might be able to get hold of the new 1.7's for a review?

Piece of cake. Best $600 bucks you can spend on a system. I've heard the 1.7's and we are still waiting for a review pair, but as much as the 1.7 is a better speaker, they still didn't address the issue of using really cheap parts in the crossover.

The 1.7 is a more coherent speaker than the 1.6, because now both drivers are of the same material, which is a good thing. However, I'm still more impressed with the modded 1.6, because it takes such a huge veil out from the speakers' presentation.

Running mine with a pair of MC1.2 KW's.... A little overkill but really sounds fantastic..

Thanks for posting the link Emil. I am planning on listening to the Maggie 1.7s this coming Saturday at a dealer over by Detroit. TonePub, maybe it won't be to long once people start getting the 1.7s that Sean of the Skiing Ninja will come up with a cross over mod for them also.

The Shot Gunn mod is excellent, however, you may not want to invest that much money in the speakers and ship them both ways..

The Skiing Ninja mod is a nice halfway step.
