There seems to be quite a push in high end DACs to include the ability to decode DSD. Is it a big deal that the Ref CD 9 doesn't include this feature, or is the availability of downloadable DSD files so scarce that it doesn't matter?

IMHO the ability to accept DSD over PCM is less than important than if the type of DAC and the implementation.

I can only get DSD rips from my SACDs through a friend who has one of those elusive PS3s but they are IMHO very good. If you can't get any, then perhaps it's not worth the effort, unless you like the selection at the few online outlets selling DSD recordings (BlueCoast etc) until HD/Linn get into the act

Huge mistake for ARC not to include DSD. I TRIED to get them to change chipsets prior to the REF DAC but they knew better.

I had a DAC8 have moved to an EMM DAC2x and couldn't be happier.

DSD is here and is growing in importance. I am not one to claim high res automatically means better sound and in fact have many redbook recordings that are some of the best. But IMHO DSD Is a better format and sounds better than its most of the PCM counterparts.

OPUS is developing a DSD download site and now have a free sampler available available to download. This new mastered sample is better than even the SACD counterpart.

Personally I would not buy a DAC today without DSD. I am sold on it.
