Heathkit. AS-101 speakers?
I know several folks here use the Altec Valencia/Flamenco speakers with great success with Shindo gear. I stupidly missed a local Valencia 846A last year. I found locally a Heathkit AS-101 with the below specs (similar to the Valencia):
impedance - 8 Ohms Power rating - 30-50 Watts Sensitivity - 97 db SPL Crossover frequency - 800 Hz Altec Components are : 416-8A woofers, 806-8A drivers, 811B horns Any thoughts/experience? Thanks for any advice! |

Heathkit AS 101 is the Altec Valencia/Flamenco in kit form with absolutely genuine Altec components. Crossover in the Heathkit version is said to be better than on the actual Altec built model but I have no further details on this. Recommended amplifier power is 10 - 50 w according to the catalog. In reality, 3 watts will empty the room.
I have a pair of Heathkit AS 21 which is the same deal in Altec Laguna/Malibu. |

Sancho - According to the 8 Ohm spec, the Heathkit speaker would have the same impedance rating as a Valencia 846B. You may be better served if you hold out for a 16 Ohm speaker, such as an 846A. Cheers -Don

Agreed, 16 ohm is well suited for tube amplification. AS 21 is 16 ohm.
