Default Dynamic Range

Dynamic Range Day. Great topic out on the web, go to. Almost to me fits into Dan's topic Sounds More Analog.

https://www.computeraudiophile.com/c...ange-day-r642/

Yes real life has great dynamic range, to bad so many are in the loudness wars camp.

This is where a nice quiet, tight listening room with great acoustics and most everyone on the AA users system are so impressive. Can't get that at the show, demo store or a car.

The year is 2018. Stone Temple Pilots new album (2018) came out on Tidal. Dynamic range min is 5, max is 7 which is absolutely terrible. The album is virtually unlistenable on any audiophile gear. Why???????

Best Sir,

And it is MQA! Unlistenable garbage.

I was listening to a DSD file with great dynamic range so had my headphones turned up enjoying the music. The album ended so I decided to check out the Stone Temple Pilots album and it nearly blew me out of my chair with loudness level beyond any reason or logic. Whoever mastered that album should give up the profession and go do something else but should not be allowed near a mixing console ever again.

It just proves once again what we all know, that it’s not the format, it’s the mastering and engineering that matter.

Totally agree! I love listening to analog but there are some terrific digital downloads and CD's out there. Just need the right engineer.
