Default New Reel to Reel Software Announcement

GROOVE NOTE RECORDS ANNOUNCES FIRST REEL TO REEL TITLES

Groove Note Records is proud to announce its first series of audiophile true studio
master quality reel to reel releases. The first three titles will be launched during the
forthcoming June 2013 THE Show at Newport Beach.

The titles are:
1. Jacintha - Here's To Ben (GRV1001)
2. Roy Gaines - I Got The T-Bone Walker Blues (GRV1002)
3. Anthony Wilson - Jack of Hearts (GRV1046)

All the Groove Note releases will be true 2nd generation masters and will sound as
close to original master reference quality as possible. The original analogue masters
(1/4 or 1/2 inch 30 ips) will be replayed off the highly modified and rebuilt Studer A80
in the Bernie Grundman mastering room via the Grundman EQ board direct to ATR102
reproduction machines (rebuilt and customised onboard electronics) running in slave at
1/4 inch 15 ips.

The mastering and EQ of all the reel to reel titles will be done by Bernie Grundman. All
tapes will include reproductions of the original cover art and a 1K alignment tone.

The SRP of each set of tapes is $600.

Of the 3, I like Roy Gaines.

Are they going to consider more titles?

Myles.......$600.00 for a single tape is a bit stout. Strictly a niche market I would assume.

Tape, sadly, has always been an expensive date (perhaps that's why audiophiles of yesteryear made their own recordings?) $40 for both sides of an LP in 1958 equates to $320 today. And remember that was for massed produced, commercial tapes that don't sniff near the sonic quality of these real time duped, one on one copies, taken directly off the original master, not a Multi-gen source.

Plus it's a limited run to test the waters, you're looking at $100+ for just the tape and reels, some royalty fees, packaging, Bernie's time ain't cheap, etc.The others got away with lesser prices because they were doing it as a labor of love. Plus it's a true second gen tape that Yin feels will be virtually indistinguishable from the master tape.

Then again there are those of us that spend bongo bucks on a system; what would $300-$600 for tape mean? One's never going to replace their entire collection with tape but for those of us searching for the holy Grail, the creme de la creme of sound, that moment where you can momentarily glimpse a snippet of realty, there's nothing like 15 or 30 ips tape, especially of the 1/2 inch variety

A local dealer who's a good friend of Yin Tan brought a set of that Jacintha tapes to showcase at the audio show in Bangkok last week. Albeit they were played back on a Revox machine that was not properly calibrated, the sound was great indeed (at least to my untrained ears).

Harmonics from piano and the saxophone's dynamic were very close to a live performance. Quite natural, I liked it.

Thanks for the report. Ying's tapes are in short supply.
