Just purchased a good Tascam ATR 80
Reel to Reel Tape Recorder with remotes etc. It will go nicely with my Tascam ATR 60. The plan is to build an analog home recording studio. Here is a photo.

I stand by my original comment that it is really hard to imagine a Studer, Ampex, Otari etc 2 inch reel to reel machine sounding any better than my Tascam ATR 80. I have now been listening to it for about four days and I am totally impressed with its sound. Additionally, while my Tascam ATR 80 was purchased for $3400 with shipping; why would anyone spend upwards of $14,000 for a Studer 2 inch machine. Knowing that Studers are older with parts being hard to find; it doesn't make sense to me and god knows I am not one to hold back when it comes to spending. I look forward to the next audio show so that I can once again hear a Studer. I am also very excited to being going to The Capital Audiofest 2013 in Silver Spring. I plan on spending a lot of time in the United Home Audio/ MBL room listening the customized tascam reel to reels phase 11 and the Tape Project Tapes.

Miner- Yes it is. I have been playing with it for a couple of days. I is great. I also have the Tascam ATR 60 which is sixteen tracks. I still learning about it though! I think the hardest thing is going to be the calibration. I have the MRl tapes and am reading the manual and all the literature I can find on it. Who knows where this will take me?
