I would never have the discipline to not listen out of the box before break-in. When I get something new for my system I tear the packaging open with my teeth and ram it right in, finger on the play button. Then you break in, which is fun. I would definitely run burn in tracks 24/7 for two weeks when not listening to actual music.

Don't have the Ayre disc but have read good things about it. I'm running music on shuffle on my Mac Mini 24/7 to break in the DAC - I should be done in a week. I've found that Ayre components (like pretty much everything else) need serious breaking in. I too usually jump right in to listening, but am usually disappointed until the gear's broken in so I'm really trying to control myself this time. I've got my MCD500 and some new vinyl on the TT to hold me over in the meantime.
