Plasma TV Issue

Jim - Indeed, sorry about the unexpected failure of your tv. You can get a very nice new tv for $2,300 these days.

There are companies that will process electronics. For tvs, there is usually a small disposal fee. The good news is that the tv won't end in a land field somewhere - at least I hope.

Sorry to hear the bad outcome for your set. The good news is that you can get a newer model that will likely outperform it for less than the estimated repair cost. As far as recycling it, many municipalities offer electronic recycling either for free or at a reduced fee for their residents.

This is one of the few times I am not looking forward to purchasing something new. The Panasonic Plasma had a fantastic picture. No complaints at all. It was better than our Sony plasma or our Samsung LED.

As I indicated earlier I don't think I am going to spend the extra dollars to be a 4K early adopter or get one of the curved displays. It looks like I can pick up a decent 75" or 80" model easily under $3k (you know the price for two power cords )

As far as disposing of the current unit. It is watchable and my daughter might find a place for it in her home. Our grandson has special needs and at time can be a danger to a TV.

I went out looking the other day. I'm not sure which direction to go. The larger 4k models are still a bit pricy. I looked at the 79" & 84" LG's but they are $7k or $9k. The had one 90" Sharp left at about $7K. Then in the $4k range they have the 80" Sharp LED and some 65" 4K TV.s

They did have one Pansonic and one Samsung 65" Plasma available but would like a bit larger even though those pictures are nice.

Keep us posted Jim. I will be looking over the next year or so for a 75 or 80. I realize there is not a lot of 4k material out there but it is coming. Hate to miss this tech on a large new set at this point in time. Also, these will be a lot more affordable by the holiday season.

My 70" Sony XBR 4K LED is a fantastic TV and one to consider, Jim.

More than the standard 1080p LED units but even with the same video source, definitely a step up in video quality.

I decided on the LG 79" 79UB9800 UHD 4K unit. It was a big jump over either of their 65" versions. This one was 240 Hz as compared to most of the other units 120. IMO this is important for watching sports. Delivery is set up for tomorrow afternoon.

I will let you know how stupid of a decision this was in a few days.
