Yea I noticed the Tubestore deal. Was thinking of grabbing a couple. Several different things on e-bay also.

I just want to see what Woo says about it.

I just had a very nice conversation with Woo Audio. Excellent people and excellent service! He said he does not worry about the buzz when first turning on the amplifier because they are pure tube power, no filtering, not circuit boards in there, just direct tubes. So this is normal. However he is a little concerned about the initial issue I had and is therefore going to replace the tubes.

Interesting point though. For the power tubes (the two little ones), they actually use NOS tubes. The Rectifier tube is new built, but not the 6DE7's. They test them all and send back ones that are not to their standards. So I have no need of buying NOS for these tubes since they are already providing them ...

I will see when the replacements arrive, however the ones sent with the unit are RCA. Can you suggest a tube that would be worth trying to roll these 6DE7's? Or do you feel what is sent with the amp is the best bet?

Randy, I've had my WA6 for almost 10 years now, and the buzz or hum when first turned on has always been there. It starts when first turned on and then fades quickly as the tubes warm, should only last about 5 seconds, and is typical of tube designs like this. Re the 6DE7, I've never tried rolling them, but Jack does sell an upgrade tube on his website. Not sure about other options, but if you want to do a little research there's a thread on head-fI.org, just search for 6DE7 substitute.

Thank you Tony. After talking to Michael I am not worried about the the start up buzz, but I was concerned with the sound became very distorted and only stopped when the tubes were reseated a couple times.

Woo impressed me very much with their service!

I do have a NOS tube coming for the rectifier. It sounds like that is a good choice. I am also thinking about maybe grabbing one of the upgrades from Woo. I hear the Sophia Princess is pretty darn good.

But first I want to make sure all good with the amp. Feeling a lot more confident after speaking with Michael at Woo!

Sounds good. Woo has always stood by their products.
I have the Sophia Princess and it was a nice upgrade from the stock rectifier, really opened up the soundstage with my HD800s.

Nice... I am going to compare the original China made rectifier against the RCA NOS I have coming and then I might get a Princess. The output tubes are already NOS. Not sure if there will be a huge difference with others there... maybe... we will see.

Thanks for the input Tony... much appreciated!

It will be interesting to hear your impressions. Keep in mind NOS simply means "New Old Stock," NOS is not necessarily aways better, it depends on the brand and model.

Yea, I have heard that. The RCA I am getting came highly recommended by a friend who is using one and thinks it is fantastic. He sent me a link and said this is one you should try. Also, it is cheap, so a good way of trying a different tube to see if I can hear the differences.

Randy, is there a reason you chose the WA6 over Woo's other models suck as the Fireflies?
