Default Anthem AVM-60 vs. the new McIntosh MX122

Well I pulled the trigger on buying my new HT processor last night....I went with the New Anthem AVM-60. I SO freak'in want a Mc processor but every time I try and justify it....I just can't.

Lack of factory product support (updates) and simply the high price just kill the deal for me buying a Mc. The Anthem has a huge feature set, at less than 1/2 the price.

Out of interest, did you compare against the Marantz 8802A or Yamaha CXA-5100 before you went with the Anthem?

I did not. The Yamaha unit looks cool!
I'm replacing a Marantz unit now.

Anthem makes great products. I used to own a D2 and it was a great HT processor. Enjoy it!

Thx Dan. I REALLY wanted the new MX122. I just couldn't justify spending the additional $4,000 ish. Seems like I'm replacing my prepro every 3 to 4 years or so and it doesn't appear the Mc units hold their value very well. JMHO

Please keep us posted regarding your impressions.

Why did you choose it over 8802a ? Price and/or ARC ?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike....both. And, I found my old Marantz processor a bit difficult to use. Especially the remote....

It looks like a really fine machine. Congrats on the purchase. I think you made a wise decision, you are correct on the resale values on the McIntosh SSPs.

How are you liking the Anthem? Having read lots of good stuff about the AVM60 it's sparked my interest as a real contender for me. Be great if you could share your experiences so far for both 2 channel and multi-channel...

Look forward to hearing how you've found it!
