The Fostex TH900s are definitely on the bright side so pairing them with the GS-X should have made them unbearable to listen to. However, I didn't find that to be the case at all. I found the pairing to be reasonably smooth with excellent drive and dynamics. I didn't experience any fatigue at all. This amp sounds most impressive with techo music and that is what most people were using it for.

I will say that I find Sennheiser amps(except the new Orpheus) to be unbearably bright and instantly fatiguing. The smoothest solid state amp I have heard is the Naim Dac-V1. At the end of the day, my absolute favorite amps tend to be tube or hybrid designs such as the Audeze King.

I guess you could say that if it is popular amongst techno fans, it must be tipped up in the bass rather than being very neutral.
