Thoughts on one Sonus faber Gravis II sub with Speakon connector to a pair of MC275 in mono mode? Red wire to one MC275 pos, Yellow to other MC275 pos and black to chassis screw?

Should i use the 4 or 8 ohms tap to my S812 sub? My speaker is on the the 4 ohm tap.
Amp is MC452. |

Since the autoformer is meant to deliver the same power into all loads, the voltage on the 8 ohm taps will be a bit higher than on the 4 ohm taps, so the 8 ohms should appear louder when connected to the REL. It can't hurt to try either one and probably more a matter of convenience than anything else. Follow the guidelines for connecting a balanced, 'floating' amplifier like the MC452.

can i have the speaker on 4 ohms tap and the rel sub on 8 ohms tap at the same time? or do i have to have them on the same tap?

Yes. It will work. The only reason to use the 8 Ohm tap is if you can’t get enough level out of the 4 Ohm tap.

My apologies if this has been answered: I'm considering picking up a REL sub to mate between my MC452 and my Focal Sopra 2s. I've seen a few Youtube videos on how to connect the Neutrik cable ends to the amp. But I'm unclear as to whether they are supposed to go onto the same terminal as the terminals where the speaker wires are? None of the vids seem to show how the speakers are connected, they only show where the sub cable is supposed to go. I just don't want to short anything out!

Proper way to hook up a REL Sub
See link in Post # 107, this thread. Just add the sub wires as shown. Connect the black wire to a chassis ground screw. Do not connect the black wire to any of the speaker (-) terminals!
At this point I’ll add this editorial comment: “or get a sub with properly designed high level balanced inputs and forget about speaker level connections entirely”

I'm gonna stick up for my RELs - there is a benefit to having both speaker level and line level inputs, as REL offers, in a dual-use scenario (music and home theater) - the speaker level inputs for music and the line level for the LFE output of the HT (the .1 channel, which is absent in two channel content). The REL lets you blend these with different gains. So, it works pretty well. Not sure if others allow multiple signals to be blended like that.

Not sure about the technical stuff, but I love my RELs and they sound great and were easy to integrate into the system. Took, maybe, 20 minutes.
