They do still have the attributes of Magnaplaners, but with more body and dynamic range which is what limited them in stock form. I have heard the 3.6's and mine will easily hold their own and best the 3.6's on many types of music. Once I redid the voice coils on the panels and rewired them internally they to me are no longer 25 yr old speakers. FWIW
They do need subs to complete their mission on music other than Jazz, chamber and Acoustic music IMHO

Regards,
Jim

Hell YES! I had my MG12 QR modded by John (aka Peter Gunn) at Magnestand. The "speaker" was removed from he stock frame, flipped and installed into the Sapele wood frame you see that was hand built by John. A custom cross-over was added which improves the efficiency from 86 to 92dbl. I can't imagine ever replacing them! These aren't your daddy's Maggies.

I meant, of course, "custom-modded Maggies" as a suggested label of pride.

Peter does really nice work, and was more than helpful with advice when I modified mine.

Jim

I like the improvement in efficiency you got with the MG12 rebuild. This is usable in the real world.

Hey Jim,
I noticed that you have the NHT Evolution subs paired with the maggies. I have 4 of the w2's and two NHT A-1 in stereo with the X-2 Xover that augment my maggie q1.6's. I love it but I am always convinced that I don't have the x-over dialed in exactly where I want it. It sounds great and makes the sound stage much wider but I am interested what settings you have your X-2 set at? I know this depends on room size, personal tastes, etc. but I am really curious. Thanks. I have got the subs playing everything from around 60hz on down. Phase switch at 0 with the knob turned to 90. gain about a ten o'clock and the boundary settings at -6. This seems to work fairly well but I know it could use some tweaking...
Thanks!
