Hello Everyone,

My name is Jonathan and I'm 37 years young. I Live in Ontario, Canada. I have a "desk job"(I have weight issues.. :P) in the construction mining sector.

I bought my first "ghetto-blaster" on a trip to ottawa (or was it Niagra) when I was around 10 years old with some birthday money and whatever savings I had scratched up. The first cassette's I purchased on my own was John Cougar's Uh-HUh, and I would listen to it backward and forward at night as I fell asleep. (although that Authority song would get my blood pumping.). As time went on though I eventually busted up my ghetto and ended up di-secting it, which resulted in about 1000 pieces that never got put back together again.

Fairly quickly though, now the age of 12 or 13 I managed to convince my parents to pick me up actual stereo components and some real killer 35 buck / 35 watt speakers. . I had a Phillip's(if Memory serves) reciever with a black Gloss front and a silver bottom edge of flat push button selectors. A Dual cassette player/recorder that I later learned (much to my pride) to be a consumer # 1 rated. And lets not forget the 5 band a side Equilizer which I used alot depending on what I was listening too. Which at that time would of been alot of AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Styx, Huey Lewis and the News, and anything else I could get my hands on.

I Moved when I was about 14 to another end of town, and by the time I turned 16/17, some of those buttons on my Reciever started to act up. Lucky for me I was now working summers and had a wallet full of money. Thick with money in fact, as I worked out of town for 36 days on and 5 days off, 13-14 hours a day which netted me about 200 straight hours every 2 weeks. I couldn't wait to spend it.. which unforunately I spent regularly on Hashish, Pot, Oil and lets not forget Beer.

The end of that summer materialized into a new level of listening. I went out and bought myself what I thought was one darn heavy 40 pound, 80 watts a side Sherwood Reciever with fully functioning dolby surround. Lucky for me My parents had bought a extra set of 35 watt speakers years back that they no long used. Surround Sound had Arrived. And with it My love of Movies quickly grew.

Now 17 years old and throughly enjoying my Sherwood reciever (which i had right up until I was about 31 years of age). Something very special happened. I was talking to my Uncle Jerry one day and was telling him that I was looking at getting some new speakers as the one's I had were partly blown or just worn out. Well count my lucky stars if he wasn't selling his speakers. For 400 bucks I Purchased A Pair of Sound Dynamic 1500's (2-way with 15" sub). I now experienced the full spectrum of sound for the first time. Movie watching took on new levels of enjoyment. And music filled my every orfice, as I listened to Pink Floyd and One of my Personal Favorites "Roger Water's Pro's and Con's of Hitchhiking". Crazy as it sound, the set up of my room and the effect of dolby surround couldn't of sounded any better. My stereo was now the pride and enjoy of all my friends. *blush*.

Time slowed down or was it spead up as my life continues at that point, Countless hours spent in the confines of my bed enjoying Movies or Music, and also unfortunately bottle tokes (BT's as we called them back then). Those were the days. As time went on of course, I went to college.. Screwed that up.. Eventually Went to re'hab for more serious drug problems.. Screwed that up.. And GUESS what? Yes I finally went cold stone sober about 8 or 9 years ago? *cheer*.

I'm now married with a beautiful wife and 2 fine children. I recently traded in my Sound Dynamics for 802D's and a Nad T752 Reciever for a Bob Carver Theatre Grand IV which is waiting to be replaced yet again by a MX150 which will compliment my mc300 and mc205. Boy how things have changed these last 10 years. But somethings don't change. I still love to sit in complete and comfortable silence as I am encapsulated by the movies I love to watch and the music I love to listen too. And I continue to dream of upgrades to make me even more comfortable (in the form of Sweet theatre seating with recline), and A large-butt screen I won't be able to escape. Can't wait for next years toys. lol

Thanks for listening.

i enjoy lurking and seeing what others have to say, maybe I'm lazy. I've been building my wife and I a real house, not like the cabin we've lived in for 23 years,680 square feet.and off the grid. the stereo or the beast as many refer to it consists of;mac 7300 wife's birthday present to me at 40. mr 78 redone by terry dewict. conrad johnson cd payer with tube output another b'day present. and a c2200 pre all drive snell b minor speakers. Now that we have moved into new digs the stereo sits in the living room that only has one 90 degree corner and ceilngs that begin at 11 feet and go up to 26 feet the rig set up against a curved wall and has never sounded as good, even the wife is impressed. anyway it will be sometime before I can ever upgrade, stuff like chairs, extra bed washer/dryer and lots of other trappings of life must take presidance, at least so I am told by the boss, so I must live vicariously in this forum to enjoy the upgrade bug. life is good
