I received the email too. Not sure if R series was being affected - didn't sound like it based on the email. I would imagine the K-5xeMP and V-5xe are going up - isn't the K-5xeMP $3500? That was my first preamp, got it in 2010.

My first high-end system had the Ayre KX-5xeMP preamp, C-5xeMP disc player, V-5xe power amp, and Wilson Sophia speakers. It was a sound far beyond anything else I'd previously owned.

My MX-R20's have arrived at my dealer. Will set them up tonight & post immediate impressions. I expect some burn-in will be necessary; it's been my experience with Ayre gear that it sounds best after 3 or so weeks of good burn-in.

Time to say goodbye to my VX-5.

jax, I find it interesting how similar your progression has been to mine (only you're a little faster!) I had the Ayre 5-xe series as well (non-mp, as it wasn't available yet), to switch to Simaudio for a bit, then back to Ayre with the QB-9, VX-5, KX-5, and I've been eying Shunyata for a long time now (just waiting to pull the trigger basically, I do have a Talos for now).

Please let us know the differences you find between the VX-5 and MX-R20. I need to know if I should refinance my home

Are they new MXR-20's? I bet it takes 6-8 weeks nearly 24x7 playing time. My MXR's are over 5 years old...they took forever....but hey you have one of the world's best amps now ! Good things are worth the wait !! I plan on doing the twenty update soon...honestly I don't have a single complaint as they are...

Right there with you Manbient. I've got my eye on R series too, but going to do some power conditioning, cable swapping and room treatment to ensure I've given the K series a fair shake. If I knew for certain that the R Twenty series would in fact give me the sound that I'm looking for, I would pull the trigger tomorrow. Unfortunately, I'm not able to home demo like jax did.

The MXR20's are finicky beasts...
It took well over a month of playing 15 hours a day and being on 24/7 before they settled in
They improved substantially with 2 dedicated ac lines vs. 1. 2 are mandatory IMO.
They respond to different placement/spikes/isolation schemes. I'm still experimenting.
They love the Shunyata Typhon in parallel, one on each amp. I use Anaconda Z PC's right now, willing to bet Sigma HC's will be stellar on them.
Never turn them off or put them in standby
And, of course black Ayre sounds best
