English Grammatical Questions for Ripping Purpose
Hi there,
Hopefully there will be some english teachers among us that could possibly answer my questions about the english language. I have, so far, ripped about 450 CD. And the more I rip, the more I want. Addicting.. But, from CD to CD, artist to artist, the song titles are always written differently. What is bugging me is that I would like to standardize all my rips with the same orthography. Otherwise it looks messy. For example: From Harry Manx: I'm Sitting On Top of the World, or: I'm Sitting On Top Of The World Do all words must be capitalized? Is there a grammatical rule for naming titles? I am using dBpoweramp CD ripper with the Perfect Tune add-on. Thanks,

English Grammatical Questions for Ripping Purpose
I often wondered about this same thing.
Technically speaking, I’m not sure anything “should” be capitalized in that title except the first word, “I’m”. When it comes to music titles though, I often see it both ways. I even see all caps (that one drives me crazy). But in the first example, the “on” shouldn’t be capitalized if “if” and “the“ aren’t. “I’m Sitting on Top of the World” My opinion anyway. It’ll drive you crazy if you think about it too long. Last edited by Cohibaman; 11-27-2019 at 11:13 PM. |

The grammatical rule for titles is that a preposition should be lower case unless it’s the first word, all other words uppercase, including articles like “A” and “The.”
To be grammatically correct, it should be “I’m Sitting on Top of The World” - unless, of course, the title as printed on the album is different, in which case I think it makes sense to use the title as intended by the artist or record company.

Agree with Tony's above post.
As far as editing, re-editing, and so forth, I recommend JRiver - easy to use editing tools for most purposes and a powerful set of customizable features. JRiver is a great library management tool; dBPoweramp is a great ripper.

Mp3tag is a powerful and easy-to-use tool to edit metadata of audio files, and is updated regularly. https://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
Be careful, that you are downloading the software and not an ad. Ron

English Grammatical Questions for Ripping Purpose
I have to amend my comments: it’s been a little while since I reviewed my grammar rules [emoji846]. According to Grammarly.com and a couple of other sites, you also should leave conjunctions and articles as lower case. Here’s a good link:
https://www.grammarly.com/blog/capit...in-the-titles/ According to this, it should be “I’m Sitting on Top of the World.”

That's what I use. It is great. And if you are into classical music, the metadata errors get even worse! I have found multi discs collections with discs in different languages! |
