Default Mcd1100

Hi, just wondering how this CD player compares to the newer McIntosh models? Is it still fairly up to date, or is it strarting to show its age (tech, etc.)?

That's a very interesting question. I don't think it is. I own one and it is an excellent piece of gear but it is going on 10 years old. It is very advanced for its age however. For example it has the MCT output. None of the Mac gear at that time have this valuable output. I use my MCD1100 as a backup to my D1100 and as a turntable to play my CD's and SACD's through my D1100. If my D1100 goes down for any reason I have an able backup to play USB from my computer, CD, and SACD. The SACD output and USB input are extremely valuable for this reason. I have my USB input upgraded to play asynchronous 2.0 USB done by the factory, although I no longer use it. I can highly recommend this piece of gear but I do not think it on the cutting edge of digital. Too old.

I purchased an MCD1100 second hand back in February this year. I needed to upgrade my old CD player and the Mac player is a revelation. Of course I got it way below what was the new price and I think on the second hand market it’s a bargain. I’m not into downloading as prefer to have a listen on Spotify and then buy the CD. I have an old Naim DVD5 player (which I use for DVD playback) and I use a coaxial digital cable and feed the signal to the MCD1100 for decoding then via XLR analogue interconnect to my MA8000 amp. (The 8 channel DAC in the MCD1100 is quite a bit better than the 2 channel DAC in the amp).

I’m glad you like your MCD 1100. I own the second production unit built. I use it to play SACD’s mostly. Sounds great. With BNC, AES/EBU, coaxial, McIntosh proprietary DIN, and optical ins and outs, along with a USB input it is very flexible. It also has variable and fixed balanced audio outputs.

I love mine and have no plans to replace, but since I got into streaming (Qobuz) mine hasn’t seen a lot of use lately.
