Default MVP-861, MS300-750 remote control replacements

Hello folks. As is typical, all 3 of my remotes are/have turned sticky. Whatever is used to cover the plastic and silkscreen info changes state and comes off, whether you use the remote or not.

I have my Harmony remote which came with my MX135, as well as the stock MX135 remote, both are pretty much as new. I know that they can be used for some functions when you connect the data lines, but not all of them. Is there a consensus on the best replacements for these? I don't really want the OEM remotes again, as they will do the same thing no matter how much you try not to use them.

Did McIntosh ever release updated replacements for the original remotes that don't get sticky and shed ?

Yes. McIntosh released the HR085 as a replacement for the sticky remotes. I'd contact the parts department and confirm the number. One came with my C 1100. Nice remote. I need to get one for my MCD 1100 remote which has developed a bad case of the stickies. You can also remove the sticky coating with 70% or greater Isopropyl Alcohol.

Does the alcohol remove the silk screening from the remotes? I have a gallon of 99% denatured alcohol here, which I use for cleaning PC board flux and making homemade record cleaning solution for my VPI 16.5. It's cheaper than buying off the shelf RCF, plus the formula I use does the job a treat, whether on new or used vinyl. Dead quiet, clean, shiny vinyl!

I'll call Mc parts this week regarding the HR085. I want to get some knobs for the MR 74 anyway, as well as later aluminum end caps for my MR74 and MPI4.

I was also considering the latest Harmony remote, the one with the touch screen. My Harmony H659 still looks and works perfectly, but lacks the newer touch screen and smartphone app.

No such thing as too many remotes. I still have extra slots in my remote caddy to fill!

My MVP861 came with an HR089. Works great and is the newer style, can't get sticky. I did order an HR085 for a C47 recently from McIntosh, $80. not bad. Guessing the HR089 is the same price. I think you want the HR089 though, it has different buttons specific to a CD player.

Thank you, McGuyDLF, I'll take a look at the HR089 before ordering one. I did notice the HR085 looked to be more for a preamp or processor..was going to ask either way.
