Audiophile Fuses in Audio Research Ref Amps
Does anyone use one of the audiophile fuses in an Audio Research Ref Amp? I have a Ref 110 which like the Ref 150 uses a 7 amp slo-blo fuse. I went to order one of the Hi-Fi Tuning fuses today and found out they do not make a 7 amp fuse. The closest is either the 6.3 or 8 amp fuses. I looked at Synergistic Research and they don't seem to make a 7 amp fuse either.
So does anyone use an audiophile fuse in their amp and if so what brand? |

Just my opinion, but I would rather have an 8 amp fuse that blew instantly than a 7 amp slo-blo fuse.

IMHO you should use the fuse supplied by the manufacturer. Audiophile fuses are in the same category as green markers.

I think the important thing is to always replace a fuse with one of the same type and rating as specified by the manufacturer.

I have to agree. I want to use the same value fuse that Audio Research intended.

Lower is always in the side of safety.

Agreed, I would try 6,3A slo-blo as replacement to 7A slo-blo.

It's the same superlative so best to describe the improvements ... Paul Weitzel made me TRL PCs, basically FIM with a heavy solid core construction. It's has the best tone and color but a bit slow and narrowing of soundstage. I still use them sometimes ... a combination of Nordost Valhalla and TRL would produce a perfect PC. The IsoClean gave me the tone and color of TRL PCs without sacrificing any speed, transparency, soundstage ... It still difficult to believe how 2 fuses can make such an improvement. I installed the fuse direction from back to front. It sounded great new but smoothed out after ~10 hours. REF250 has 3 fuses but I'm only going to replace the main one. |

I ran my previous REF5SE and REF150 with Reds and was pleased with the improvment over the factory fuses. Currently running a Red in place of the mains input fuse on the 10, and was planning on the same with the 250se's |

So what SR Red fuse size are you getting for 250se? 6.3A or 8A? |
