I'm listening to it now 24/96,
Track 1 is disappointing, I was waiting for something but it never delivered. Track 2 is OK, but not great. Track 3 was terrible until her stopped singing. Track 4 all the random background noises and the words he is using, is it rhyming 101. Track 5 is better. The guitar work is awesome, but the rest of the vocals is terrible. I'm giving up.

With co-production by Phil Manzanera, it has a certain experimental feel and therefore not to everyone's taste. It is growing on me.

Bluray in PCM stereo or 5.1 even on my oppo 95 is better than the HD tracks, cd, or 180g pressing on the k03 and the c500. The mixing and production on the bluray, the barn jams etc are nice. Maybe if you could take a 2ch cut from the bluray and put it to an sacd them to the k03 yes yes.. But nobody seems to be cutting sacds bummer
I ordered from Gilmour's site direct and it came in special leather bindings, books, a shirt etc all very nice. I have all versions of the media. My review, well the more you listen it it good especially skill musician wise. I read Gilmour thinks it is the best he has ever done, well I would say that on an island with Cosby and Nash vocal backups and Richard Wright along with great lyrics is better. I also like his 1st 2 solo albums All that said I like it, but Dave is getting up there, at near 70 I would say his voice has maybe lost a little but don't think he sucks. Overall I guess, and I am a hard core Gilmour / Floyd person would give it a B or b- for the lyrics, and I guess that is since it is more a whimsical cut rather than progressive rock. But the instruments in 5.1 and the overall mix and production are an A. I think like a lot of David's music you need to and have to listen to his guitar like one listens to jazz type music. His guitar speaks and talks to you. It is a secondary level not a surface level record. Anyway all my take opinion etc, I did get and spring for great seats at the Hollywood Bowl in March at a seated table very near the stage. I have not seen Dave since Animals back in the 70s and I think this is a last chance, he will play songs from Floyd, this record as well as others, have special guest, and unlike many other artist, Dave sets up his venue like an AA member with best in class effects and sound. Watch the bluray of On An Island in England or the Poland venues, no messing around or have but effort. First class production. I was hoping for a like more on this record, but I kinda felt that without Richard Wright who not only was a keyboard player unlike any other, he also helped Dave with arrangements and lyrics too. All that said I am glad Dave made one more record Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado |

When I said a b or b- on lyrics I guess I meant to say vocals from Dave, maybe a 10 year younger David gets a b+ on vocal production. So the meanings and words of the songs, most written by Polly are every bit a b+ to an a-. You really need to watch the bluray and all the thoughts, behinds the scenes etc and then you will understand the flow an meanings so much better.
It definitely opened and raised my appreciation and understanding of the record. I think for most myself included you are trying to take a quick listen and try to draw a quick comparison to the Division Bell or Wish You Where here, which it is not. Anyway I think if you listen through it a few times, understand the Satan and GOD story, conflicts, life, emotions and meanings, it is all there in the production of the orchestra, the effects and arrangement. So I guess I can see why David Gilmour feels it is some of his best work. The lyrics Polly wrote and two he wrote are very meaningful! If you go back to the early days with Roger David was mostly the lead and all reviews said he had a sweetness to his voice. So I do see the comments that some give saying he can't sing. That is one's opinion, which is fine and subject to taste. But I feel you either are or not a fan. Again glad he made the record, and I think it does grow on you with time and understanding. But the bluray is the hot ticket Sent from my iPad using A.Aficionado |

I agree Dave. This album rewards repeated listens. I listen to OAI and now RTL more than Pink Floyd nowadays. I still love Floyd too. I have zero issues with DG's voice.
