Default A weird thing happened while I was texting

I cooked a couple of 44 oz ribeyes last night and texted a friend a picture. He texted back and as I was about to respond I found the following on my phone, ready to send.

"The inspiration is Costco. They are advertising A5 genuine Kobe ribeyes, (a 12-13 lb whole muscle) for $1300.

We would have to ask people to contribut (sic)"

I didn't type it and havn't sent anyone anything about Kobe ribeyes at Costco.

Weird, huh? Kind of makes you wonder.

My wife asked me why I whisper and speak softly around the house. I replied that I’m afraid Mark Zuckerberg is listening in on our conversations... She laughed, I laughed, Siri laughed and Alexa laughed....

Scary part about all this is that it no longer conjecture or urban myth,...very sophisticated analytics predictive and other wise with very aggressive info gathering and scavenging exists and is in every aspect of our lives viz our interaction with technology of any kind all the way down to simple credit and debit card interactions.

There is a saying that pervades high tech and IT today...

"Data is the new Oil..."

Scary but very true.

Those ads you are seeing, the alerts you get near a Starbuck's or any other store, the emails you get that seem suspect, intrusive and omniscient all happen for a reason.

From the article I posted above.

“The industry will point to algorithms that can predict with astonishing accuracy what you’re likely to be thinking or talking about, according to John Pracejus, director of the school of retailing, University of Alberta.

“They know such a scary amount about you that they’re able to guess at the topics that you’re thinking about even without listening in on your verbal conversations,” said Pracejus.

Scary. I found the documentary The Creepy Line very eye opening.

The Creepy Line is a 2018 American documentary exploring the influence Google and Facebook have on public opinion, and the power the companies have that is not regulated or controlled by national government legislation

Definitely agree...that and other documentaries, movies like "The Circle" and other are very telling and more than a bit disturbing.

FB, Yahoo, Google and Amazon, and their partners have each advanced this rapidly but they are not alone.

One simple example of how FB, Yahoo, etc affect public opinion is to selectively tailor what they show you in terms of all ads, news, political topics, etc...based what you read, type, say, etc...in short none of us ever really truly see all sides of any story in this modern, supposedly better era of technology.

I have not seen The Circle but I do have to say that it’s no secret that the media in general is in the hands of a few select individuals each with their own agenda. To sway the masses is to tap into the power of absolute control and the means of achieving whatever that agenda may be.
