Anyone having over heating issues with their AX-5?

Mine has shut down twice. Once when it was running most of the day at moderate sound volume and once when I was getting into it with some hard rock, and by all means I didn't have the volume up past 32 ish

Most of my listening is in the 20 volume range

Joe

When pushed hard, my VX-5 runs pretty hot, but has never shut off. Do you have plenty of ventilation? Ayre recommends at least 3" clearance above the amp.

Never had an issue with my VX-5. Not an AX-5 like the OP is referring to, but I have it on a stand on the floor with plenty of clearance all around it. It runs a bit hot though. I think the Twenty version of it will run cooler, based on what I've read.

I've never had an issue win my ax5 and I usually have long listening sessions with periods where it goes loud (>30db). It does get warm in those situations but perfectly reasonable and not even hot.
I heard the 1st run of this amp did had some issues getting hot but it was later fixed.

My VX-5 does run warm, but has never shut down on me. It has run flawlessly and has sounded great once it was broken-in.

My VX-5 has been scheduled to go back to Ayre for the "Twenty" upgrade. As you might know, Ayre states that the new "Twenty" versions run cooler.

My V5xe gets warm under quiet music and quite warm but never hot under heavy music. I get a little stressed about heat issues so, periodically, I check. I sometimes run my equipment for six hours at a time.

On the list for the 20 upgrade to my VX-5 and KX-5 as well. My VX-5 runs quite hot and has shut down on my a couple of times. I don't listen at extreme volumes either, but if it's not summer and I have it on the top of my (already open) rack, it won't do it. Well... one time it did. I think I have one of the 'hot' early versions or something, so looking forward to cooler running with the upgrade!

Did they tell you how long it might be before you can send it in? Wondering how long the wait is?

I'm considering updating my ax5 to twenty, but am unsure of the benefits. Looking forward to hear your views on the update after you receive them back

Haven't had problems with my AX-5 shutting down. I'll be taking my amp into the dealer later this week to run a head-to-head against his AX-5 Twenty.
