We are in the same boat. Our grid power fails frequently in SoCal, and sometimes for long periods. Seven times in the 18 months we have had the system. We do not even notice when it occurs, but our neighbors keep asking for long extensions cords.

I feel your pain... although probably shorter outages for me

Good link, thank you. When the house is using a big power load (like the air conditioner running) and the grid goes down, there's a noticeable "slowness" to what ever is running until the inverter can catch up to the load requirements.

Everything stays on, but in this specific scenario, APC units around the house will beep and the pumps in the saltwater fish tank will slow for the couple of seconds it takes the inverter to cover the full load.

No measurements but just anecdotal from my experience that seems to match with what Paul is saying. This is also one of the reasons from the solar guy that I needed 2 powerwalls and a big a** inverter.

All that said, it's impossible to overstate the benefit of never losing power... I work from home and as long as there's no outage from comcast I can just keep working. Also, never have to reset the microwave or oven clocks, from a security perspective the doorbell and security cameras never go out, any sonic benefits to the hifi is just gravy.
