i run the ref 5SE with Mc2301 that have 91kohm of impedence (in balanced way)....and the result is better then C500+Mc2301

In general what you want is a very low preamp output impedance and a very high amplifier input impedance. A 100 to 1 ratio or greater is ideal.

What I like about my autoformer preamp is that it decreases its output impedance as gain is lowered so it compensates for the impedance electrical mismatch in a self-correcting, elegant way.

My mistake. It was the Pass Labs XA200.5 I heard with Ref 5SE.

ref 5 se + accuphase class a amp = matched heavenly. heard this at a dealer and i was blown away..

Interesting, what was the Accuphase model? They are all high quality products just like ARC.

My Ref5se is mated to a Bryston 14BST with Revel Salon 2s. Thinking of a Ref150 but for now I'm good!
