I haven't been on here in quite awhile (a month?), it's the busy time at work with our fiscal ending at the end of the month. Relaxing with some Four Roses Small Batch. Good stuff!

Jack Daniels 7

After our very interesting visit to the factory, I wanted to buy Jack's Single Barrel whiskey here, but so far I haven't found it.
The 7 is a bit sweeter and smoother than I'm used to drink - I'm a Scotch Single Malt lover - but it's absolutely agreeable.

Very interested in the Aged at Sea... I have seen TV shows about it. Does the humidity and salt air make a difference?????

IMO the Jefferson's Ocean has a noticeable salinity to it vs. other bourbons. I'm not sure it's overall as good as similarly priced bourbons, but it's worth sampling for sure.

FWIW I currently have 6 different bourbons in my bar, from Pappy's 23 down to Knob Creek (for mixing).

It definitely does. Compared to the Jefferson's Reserve, the Ocean (I have the most recent release, Voyage #5) has a softer nose, a bit more caramel to the flavor, a heavier mouth feel and a very different and more extended finish. You don't get a saltiness in the smell, but you do sense it somehow when you are tasting it. Not sure I would say it's "better", as the Jefferson's Reserve tastes more like what I would expect a bourbon to taste like relative to the rest of the market, but it is different. I like them both. I wish they would come out with more Jefferson's Presidential Select, which I still have some of, as it is a notch above both of them. I understand they are aging some of their older bourbon in Cabernet barrels, so that will be interesting to check out when it is released...

The Maker's Mark Cask Strength is much better than regular Maker's IMO. It has the same flavor, but more of it. It's not as complex as the Jefferson's but it does finish nicely and it is quite smooth given it's alcohol level.

Not that much of a whiskey drinker of any sort, but do like an occasional tipple of single-malt, so picked this Glenlivet, The Master Distiller's Reserve, on our trip to Bermuda last week. Was (read that is no longer being bottled) made for the "duty-free" trade, but is a very nice, smooth drink with exceptional flavors. Really goes well with a great cup of hot, dark coffee (with it, not in it). $40USD.
