Hi Colin,

I use a PurePower 2000 which maintains 120V at all times. Works perfectly. I am NOT putting two 16 amp fuses in my amp. That is ludicrous. I'm only hooked up to a 15 amp circuit and two 16 amp fuses in my amp would be insane. I might as well wrap tin foil around them and forget about it (kids do not try this at home).

In theory my 3.15 amp fuses should have been OK, but they blew in less than two days. Burmester’s answer is to double the rating to 6.3 amps. Is it possible that there is current surge at switch on to take into account as well?
I sent two emails to Burmester and have had two replies, no answers, just replies.
To the question what constitutes a modification as far as fuses are concerned? I received the following:
Same fuse no modification- different fuse or different brand - modification, while it is of course a question of how tight one defines it.
Make of that what you will.
To Joe’s question, do users in 115 volt areas have to replace their factory fitted 6.3 amp fuses with 16 amp fuses? The answer was unclear, but boiled down to check with the U.S. Burmester distributor.
Well, I think I’ve caused enough confusion for one day, I’m off to check the voltage on my new 948.
Yikes, my T3.15A Hi-Fi Tuning fuses just arrived this morning! I guess I'll use them somewhere else. Colin, what was the value of the fuses you took out of your 911?

I read Burmester's response to indicate there are differences in tolerance amongst fuses. Certainly, with slow blow, slow for one may be fast for another...

The 088 the distributor sent me had an audiophile grade fuse in it. I didn't pull it out to see which brand it was.

I had a PS Audio P10 in my system for an evening a few weeks back. The 911 used an instant 800w from Standby to On, and took a couple of minutes to ramp down to an idle around 60w. So the in-rush current does exceed the fuse rating for a moment based on the original specifications. Which a slow blow is intended to support. But to now double the fuse rating seems a bit extreme to me.

I also assume for the UK market Burmester use a 240VAC transformer tap rather than the 230 they use for the rest of Europe?

Glisse,

Even at 230/240V, maximum fuse rating would be under 3.5A

I don't understand the confusion. My Dartzeel specs are attached for reference.

Joe... The only confusion is how to afford all this gear.

Joe, I do understand the confusion. We are now confused as to why Burmester have indicated to Colin to double fuse ratings, which is clearly excessive as you have pointed out

In the case of the US "revised" spec of T16A, to have a fuse rating above that of the normal AC line (15 amps, I think) is madness, and obviously wrong.

I am not aware of anyone other than Colin having an issue with blowing fuses in a 911.

It seems there is no in-rush current limiting on the 911, and I saw 800 watts on start up, rather than the 750w which is the maximum for continuous operation. If Colin is feeding 242VAC into a 230VAC transformer, he will be drawing a little more current. It would only have been for a couple of seconds, but maybe Hi-Fi Tuning T fuses are not that slow.

As you indicated, a minor increase may be needed. I would use a T4.0A for a 230VAC, or T8.0A for the US. Burmester can hardly claim a warranty violation for using a fuse rating lower than recommended.

I'll get clarification the next time I speak to Robb Niemann from Burmester.

Glisse,

I know of one forum member who had sent an amp back to Germany for service. One part of the repair was to replace the in-rush limiter. I'll have to ask if that part of the repair was determined to be needed after Burmester received the amp and trough a check up decided it was necessary.
