Methinks that the Best DAC is the dCS Ring DAC.
- And then the TI Burr-Brown DSD-1792 &/or PCM-1792u DACs. - Then the Burr-Brown PCM-1704k DAC. - And then the ESS Sabre32 Reference ES9018 DAC chip. ___________________ For implementation (Topology): => Quad differential fully balanced. - Then Dual differential balanced. ___________________ After that you have the Transport Mechanism. - Then the Master Clock. - Then the Construction Filters. - Then the Upsampler. - Then the various Independently Buffered Outputs. - Then the solid proof Power Supplies. - Then the main Transformer. On the topic of DAC's. I plan to get a schiit bitfrost DAC. But another one with a balanced out comes out soon. If I intend to run a mc275 with a c220 on balanced IC's, is it worth it for me to wait for the balanced version of the schiit DAC? Also the balanced s $500 more.

It's not just the chip. It's how it is implemented with the rest of the unit. The timing between the chip and the rest of the implemented product are so touchy.
I don't understand all there is to know about it, and don't claim too. Different chips mate well with certain products, kinda like amp and speakers or Interconnects. |
