Default The Eagle Has Landed (MEN220 Content)

I recently placed an order for an MEN220, after debating for while wether I should be going with the latter or an MCD1100 first.

A few days after placing my order, I received an e-mail telling me that the MEN220 was not in stock and probably wouldn't be before at least a few weeks. After getting these news, I started debating if I should keep my order for the MEN220 or jump straight to the CD player. I bit my tongue before doing anything and decided to wait until the end of the day to make up my mind. A few hours later, UPS shows up at the door and asks us for help to bring a huge box in.

My heart started racing when I saw the McIntosh logo on one of those big brown boxes I love so much and as it got closer to me, I was able to make out ''MEN220''!

I had been tricked into this wonderful surprise, not only was the MEN220 in stock but it got to me much quicker than I had expected it to.

I left work a little earlier than usual as the excitement made me almost useless in the office, as soon as I got home I unpacked and installed my new component into my system.

The setup took about 20 minutes and was as painless as listening to droning tones for a few minutes.

I sat down to listen to a few of my favourite songs, a few seconds into it I started grinning, the room correction had the expected effect on my system. The bass tightened up and gained a nice new level of detail. The soundstage widened slightly and gained quite a bit in depth. I also noticed a bit more harmonics on the better recordings. There was also what sounded like a lower midrange peak which disappeared with the room correction, it made voices sound much more natural and allowed them to gain a life of their own and separate the from the other instruments.

After this initial listen I configured two more listening positions, including one that is off center and one that is a little higher than the others. In all positions, I found that the unit created a nicely balanced sound and an interesting soundstage.

I even configured a focus position where I sit at the dining table, I'm certain my significant other will be hearing a lot more of those ''Sorry honey, you were saying?''

See, this is the kind of excitement we like around here Congratulations Ludwig! It's nice getting those big brown boxes for the big brown truck, isn't it? Well done! Enjoy.

Ludwig.......Congratulations on the new MEN220. Additional Focus settings are just part of the amazing things the MEN220 is capable of doing. The active crossover funtions are amazing, too. I am pleased for you.

Dave, Joe and Dan,

Thank you for the kind comments

I am definately developing a special relationship with logistic companies.

I have not explored the other functions of the MEN220, they seemed like they would take a little more time and effort to implement, that is why I decided to take my time before messing around with crossovers and EQs.

So far I am definately a happy camper!

I am glad you like it! It added much to my system

IMO unless you have a highly acoustically treated, room you should consider the MEN 220....

Congrats on the MEN 220. As you know I have also purchased two MENs and I am waiting for a quiet day in which to set up the microphones and get it started. Thanks for your descriptive commentary in this regard as I might be waiting a long time to set mine up with all the honking horns and sirens going on. I live through you at this point.
