It's a Scam !!!

I have several items for sale posted on A-Gon. I have recieved countless, bogus offers from Scammers. Same routine; price OK, send check, deposit and keep X ammount for expenses, imediately send me a check for balance, remove add from A-Gon consider item sold, my shipper will p/u item.

It's a shame there are so many dishonest people, never thought I would see this on A-Gon. This really bothers me !!!

Yep, i just got an offer from somebody with no feedback, i suggested he email me at my law firm to discuss and flesh out.

In years past, I bought and sold over 200 items on Audiogon and I'm really distressed and sorry that it has been corrupted by crooks and scam artists. It used to be a great place.

It is rough out there... I was even approached here on AA for my gear I am selling and after thoroughly describing it as well as taking numerous pictures, I was asked to describe the condition as better than how I worded it, being led to also describe the tubes as NOS, etc... after I clearly stated I am second owner and I can not guarantee those facts! Insisted on Paypal! Why? Well, because you can "charge back" with paypal. I started feeling I was being led down a path of being setup. If the item is "not as described", reverse the charges.

Prevent the Top 3 Chargeback Claims
The item never arrived: Give your buyers realistic delivery dates so they don't prematurely file a chargeback. Ship packages with tracking numbers and signature confirmation to provide proof of receipt. (Postal insurance is also helpful - you can be reimbursed if the package is lost.)
The item did not meet the buyer's expectations: Make sure you describe items as accurately as possible. Provide clear images and measurements to minimize confusion.
The item was damaged: Credit card companies may allow chargebacks for damaged or defective merchandise, even if your return policy states that all sales are final. Purchase postal insurance when you send the item to help reduce potential losses.

Really, I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this. It's the same on Craigslist and eBay. It doesn't have anything to do with Audiogon per say.I get these kinds of scams anywhere I post to sell.

I have recently bought and sold on Audiogon successfully. The buy/sell interface is worse than it used to be, but it does work out in the end. I like to bash Audiogon as well as the next person, but this is really unnecessary bashing if you ask me. It's the nature of selling on the internet.

I'd love to use the Marketplace here, but it just doesn't seem oriented towards the gear I buy and sell.

I have to agree with Dean on this one. This stuff happens everywhere. I don't see any reason to continually bash Audiogon.

I recently had a couple of things on Audiogon and was contacted by a couple of buyers. One was an obvious scammer, the old I'll wire the money and have my man come pick it up scenario. I contacted those in charge and the user was removed. On another occasion I had someone as Serge describes. This guy wanted more description and pictures. I thought what I had up was sufficient and ignored him. This user had just set up his account right before contacting me.

Unfortunately in this day and age you have to be a bit cynical regarding internet sales sites.
