They were excellent pieces, but if I was ever going to update, now was the time. From all I can read, it is also a fine piece. The BR disc "Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers Featuring Edie Brickell" is arriving tomorrow. It will first be played on my 901 through my new AQ WEL coaxial digital cable. I have come to the conclusion that digital coaxial is superior to optical. I can't believe the cost of WEL Signature. It's ridiculous.

Best,

Charles
I have that blu-ray. Excellent-sounding (and looking) disc; I think you'll like it. I was playing it on a 12 year-old Pioneer Elite BDP-09FD; you should enjoy it on your 901 as well.

Charles, I asked in a previous post about your spikes but maybe you missed it. Did you get them installed?

Marc, not yet. The MVP901 should be arriving soon and when it arrives along with the WEL digital coaxial I will be finished with the source upgrade. Next will come the spiking, hopefully all done by the first week in August. The Mac gear has been slow in arriving. Initially the plan was to do it all at the same time, assuming the Mac would be arriving in a week or two after the order. It's actually better this way because I get to listen to the new transport and 901 through the old spiking, then through the new spiking, so I'll be able to provide a much better assessment of the new spikes this way. I'm having a hard time holding off on the new BR disc but I'm going to do it. It will first be played through the new 901.

Best

Charles

p.s. I hope you don't miss your Esoteric gear (SACD/CD player) too much.

Against all good judgement and common sense, I will be interested in your impressions of the 901. I shouldn't be feeding any ideas I have that are best left alone.

prepress, I just ordered BR Singin' In the Rain, Brigadoon, Gigi, and Music Man. I respect those who desire to stream and do vinyl. There are so many choices, very similar to gear. For me it's CD, SACD, Computer Audio downloads, BR, and DVD, also Laser Disc. I enjoy popping the disc in. This Mac gear is in the overall scope of things a great buy. I am very excited about the 901. I believe Mac has finally produced an exceptional BR player. I wouldn't have ordered a WEL digital coaxial if I believed otherwise.

Best

I am very interested in hearing about your experience with the 901, so please share when you're able.

Does anyone here know who makes the 901's drive? Is Mac back to Denon drives??

I have three BD players and so couldn't justify another, else I'd have gotten Pioneer's last flagship, or a 901. The 901 would go with my other Mac gear for sure. I still want to hear how it works for you. Like you, I don't stream, and I don't plan to until it's the only option. I've been using rewards points to gobble up BDs like crazy; I've bought about 16 in the last two months.

The 901 concept is very interesting. Made for bi-amping. 2 monos there it is tubes to the mid and high and transistors to the lower end in each monoblock. You could say its totally 4 monos. I'v just read about it and seen a review from Steve Guttenburg "The Audiophiliac". He was impressed.
My gut feeling is that the 901 probably is great.

We've been talking about the MVP-901 bluray player, not the MC-901 amplifier.
