Indeed........... 'sweet' is a great description of the mid-range from triode operation of our beam-power tubes (KT88, 6550, etc.). Were you using a debit card that allowed your account to be hacked? Makes me wonder if Walgreens is the next outfit to announce millions of accounts compromised 6-months after the fact?

I have a debit card but I never use the pin#. The first fraudulent purchase was at a clothing store for $50. Then a couple at Walgreens, 7eleven and many more at Walgreens. All withing two days, and most of the purchases were for the same amount. I guess that it was hard for them to catch because it was in the same state. I can't remember that last time I was at a Walgreens, but I have been there before.

I may be chastised for this, but Aperion makes a hell of a nice sub at that price point. I had a 10 inch version a few years ago before I upgraded to the JL f112.

The ST70 was a kit from VTA and I think it is a more modern circuit, still tube rectified and a larger power transformer I believe. It also has a switch on each side to select between pentode and triode for different sounds. Here are a few pictures of the amp during assembly. http://www.audioaficionado.org/membe...-st70-kit.html
I'm looking at the B&W and really like the aesthetics. They would look great in the wood panel room it's going in.
Sunshyne, The VTA ST70 looks like a fun project and nice build on your amp.

Roger

Thanks Phishphan and Roger. I'm waiting for a call from Dave at or the email response from REL about their best matching model for my price point and room if there is one. I'll look into Aperion, thanks for suggesting it.
Chris

And the recommendation from REL for my price point and room is: (2) T7 subs! Thanks J.

Interesting

I wonder if the S2 is worth the little extra over the T7.

Try Rythmik Audio Sub (F12/F12G/F12SE).
I've a F12SE. The bass is tight and fast.

According to them:
Quote:
The secret of audiophile bass is our Direct Servo technology. Many believe that accuracy is simply a matter of achieving low distortion. In reality there is more to achieving an accurate reproduction. Here we'll introduce concepts such as "bass re-radiation" and "memory effects." Others are silent on these issues because they don't want you to be concerned about how poorly their products perform in those areas. We discuss them because we believe they are widely neglected problem areas for which we have found a unique and highly effective solution.

Antipop, he t7 is a little more than the t5 and the s2 is a little more than the 7. I'll have to see if I can swing it.
Tane, hank you for the suggestion. I'll check them out too.

Update: Two REL T7's have been added.
Initially, I thought the subs sounded a little light. After adjusting a little more I realized what they could do in terms of how low and strong they could be. I would not say they feel like a kick to the chest, but they do make my LS50's seem like full range.
The T7 is responsive and reveals low end nuances. Some songs have more bass than others and it is still true with the subs playing. That is to say they do not sound bloated or one noted.
I have the level knob set around 9 o'clock and the frequency knob around 10 o'clock (between 30 and 120hz). Thanks all for the help. I am really happy with this crazy fun, small room system!
