Default Klaudio 7" & 10" Adapters

Received the Klaudio 7" & 10" adapters today. I was really excited to receive these accessories, so I could finally clean those 7" and 10" records on an ultrasonic record cleaning machine.

The adapters come in a very nice box that folds open. The box flap is held closed magnetically. There is a nice foam insert the does a great job at protecting the adapters. There is a cutout in the foam to allow you to easily remove and insert that adapter for safe storage.

No instructions come with the 7" or 10" adapter, but I feel it is obvious how the adapter works.

Klaudio 7" Adapter

Inserting and removing the 7" records was very easy. Place the adapter on a soft or padded surface. There is a top and bottom to the adapter. It would have been nice if the top was marked, but all you have to do is look for the lip/edge the 7" record will sit on.

To insert a record you simple slide the edge of the record under one of the three tabs used to hold the record in place.

Then move around the adapter to the two remaining tabs, lightly pulling the tab back toward the outside of the adapter to allow alignment of the record so when the tab is released it will hold the record in place.

The adapter holds the 7" record in place firmly enough to ensure that it will not fall out of the adapter.

The adapter held the five 7" records I tried. The Klaudio 7" adapter gives me the impression that it would work through thousands of cleanings.

Klaudio 10" adapter

The Klaudio 10" adapter is advertised to work with 78rpm or 33rpm 10" records. Using the same technique for inserting 7" records into the adapter I was successful in inserting two 78rpm records into the 10" adapter.

Compared to the tabs on the 7" adapter, the tabs on the 10" adapter did not feel very strong. This is where it goes bad. While attempting to insert a 33rpm 10" record one of the tabs broke.

Compared to the tabs on the 7" adapter the material in this area of the tabs for the 10" adapter is clearly thinner.

I quickly discovered that the 10" 33rpm record I was trying to insert into the adapters is slightly larger than the adapter will accept.

I tried two additional 33rpm 10" records, and they also would not fit into the adapter. The 10" records I was attempting to fit into the adapter where pressed over the last 2-3 years.

I measured both the 78rpm and 33rpm records. The 78rpm record has an approximate diameter of 9-3/4 inches, and the 33rpm 10" record has an approximate diameter of 9-7/8 inches. Clearly 9-7/8" is to large for the 10" adapter.

Based on my experience I would caution anyone at this time purchasing the adapter for use with 10" 33 rpm records. It appears to not have any issues accepting 78rpm records.

I'm still concerned about the strength and long term reliability of the tabs used to hold the records in the 10" adapter. Maybe this was a flaw. I really want this adapter to work, and want to give another adapter a try.

Will the Klaudio adapters work with an AudioDesk RCM
Based on my experience, NO!
Both adapters fit into the AudioDesk RCM without any problems, but the 7" and 10" records just don't sit low enough in the bath to clean all of the groove area.

Conclusion
If you have a substantial collection of 7" and 10" records I don't think it will ever be a possibility to clean them ultrasonically with the AudioDesk. Maybe AudioDesk will have something up their sleeve, but I don't think it will be possible with the current RCM.

For now Klaudio appears to be the only option that I know of for ultrasonically cleaning 7" and 10" records. Klaudio is now on my list, but there appears to be some things that need to be sorted out with the tabs on the 10" adapter. Also can it really accommodate both 78rpm and 33rpm 10" records?

Interested in feedback from other users who are using the Klaudio adapters, and how the adapters work with the Klaudio RCM.

Thanks for the in depth review, and pics. I'll contact Klaudio next week, and have them send you a replacement 10" adapter.

Don.......That was a very good review of the Klaudio record adapters. The photos are excellent, too. It is too bad the Auto Desk Systeme isn't compatible with the Kladio adapters. Thanks for keep us up to date and informed.

Dan,
I was hopeful that the adapters would work with the AudioDesk RCM. If I would have thought about this more, I probably could have determine that without trying the adapters. Anyway I found it fun, and it gave me an opportunity to see Klaudio's accessories for their RCM.

I have an email into Klaudio's support about the 33 rpm 10" records not fitting into the adapter. When I get a response I will share.

Wanted to share the response I received from Klaudio regarding the 10" adapter.

They were not certain if they had tested the 10" adapter with 33 rpm 10" records, because like me they did not realize there is a difference in the diameter of a 78rpm record, and 10" 33 rpm records proceeded today.

They stated they would immediately change the information on their we site to reference the adapter was only compatible with 78 rpm records. I checked and their site had been updated.
