This is VERY funny. I suppose it never crossed their minds that DMM LP's sound like crap.

I can't say what a direct metal master sounds like since I have never heard one, although I have a couple of Stockfish SACD's that offer amazing sound quality.

You do know that when you first posted that link that when I opened it. The first line said something like "if you are seeing this some Monkeys are hard at work"followed by a bunch of gibberish. |

Jim.......I was not aware of that. I have clicked on the link several times to see if I could repeat your experience with no luck.

All of the DMM LP's I've heard sounded really brittle. The idea behind DMM is eliminate the "master lacquer" and "metal father" stages of LP manufacture and go directly to the "metal mother" stage of LP manufacture in the hopes that by eliminating two stages that the sound quality will improve. The problem is that copper is a LOT harder to cut than lacquer, so the initial cut isn't as accurate as it would be in lacquer. It s also my understanding that a lot more amplifier power is necessary to drive the cutting head and this can mean driving amplifiers into clipping and hoping you don't blow up your Westrex cutting head. Typically this means using class AB solid state amplification, which, in my opinion, doesn't sound as good as a tube amplifier driving the cutting head.
