Audio deske issues after a year
My tank seemed to develop some brown gunk that was on the drain plug. Usage had been slow water had not been completely changed for 3 months. Does the tank need a vinegar and water rinse like a coffee maker (poured directly into drain hole bypassing barrels) occasionally? Or something similar?
Any thoughts on best maintenance procedures especially when using the machine less frequently after cleaning entire lp collection? Barrels are supposed to be changed without the mechanism underneath moving. How do you best do that? Happy New Year! |

I've cleared well over 1000 LPs in my collection. These ranged from new to used records. I also have let my AudioDesk sit for many weeks unused, and have not experienced any brown gunk during the draining of the tank.
I pre-wash my garage and thrift store record before using the AudioDesk. That might explain why I don't see gunk build up. I have followed the recommendations in the manual for replacing the cleaning fluid. If you are using the AudioDesk to clean really dusty / dirty records that might be what is causing the gunk build up. If the machine was used to clean a large batch of really dirty garage / thrift store records then it might be best to replace the fluid earlier than recommended, or drain before letting it sit unused for long periods of time. I also cover my AudioDesk with the supplied cloth cover to prevent dust build up inside the well when not in use. If you would want to clean out the well it might be best to use a distilled water rinse versus the vinegar. I don't know what effects vinegar could have on the machine or the vinyl if it not completely rinsed out. I have removed and cleaned and swapped out the barrels many times. I pull straight up, and the barrel easily slides out. For installation the barrels are pinned. Align the barrel and slide it back into place. Turning the barrel slightly so the pin slides into place is OK. You will want ensure the barrel slides completely down over the pin. Also remember to clean the sponge filter. Clean off any build up on the sponge, and then soak and rinse in distilled water a couple of times. Let dry, and replace. |

I was wondering what would happen if you did not add the ads surfactant to the water when filling the tank. A rival rcm solution maker informed me that the surfactant acts as a type of lubricant that the vinyl lp's need after being used with an ultrasonic cleaner and to always use the ads surfactant as directed.
I still wonder how long the solution can stay in the tank if you are not using it for 2 or 3 weeks. Hate wasting $20 of solution but dont want anything growing in the bottom of the tank. i finally finished the last of 22 feet of lp's this weekend |

Had my Audio Desk for close to 3 months and did not in any way seen "brown/rusty" water at all. Plus all the past issues read in the forum (and others). I was told by local distributor that I had the "latest" manufacture, and could probably be that all the issues had been addressed.
Still I must add this is one fantastic cleaning machine and kept all my vinyls happy and pristine! And I have cleaned only like 50 LP's so far! All ending up clean, clear and almost noiseless (can't help those that have a little surface scratches that comes as part and parcel of buying used - and these were greatly brought down/reduced AFTER washing). Cheers!
