subwoofer hookup
What is needed to connect a pre-amp without subwoofer or LFE outputs (does have a 2nd set of L/R RCA line outs) to a subwoofer with a single RCA input?
Thanks Glenn |

The simple way is with a Y-connector from the 2nd set of L/R outputs to the sub........BUT: That assumes a number of things.
1. The sub has its own LP filter and level control. 2. The 2nd set of L/R outputs are buffered from the main L/R outputs so that the Y-connector does not short them together. 3. You do not require a HP filter for the main speakers. All that said, it might help if you told us the names/numbers of the specific devices in your setup. |

Thanks, the pre-amp is an Audible Illusions L1 and the sub I was considering was a Hsu STF1. The AI L1 has a 2nd set of pre-amp outs, is phase inverting and the 2nd set of pre-amp outs has a 470 ohm resistor in series with the output. The sub does have its own crossover and level controls. The folks at Hsu recommended a RCA summing cable.

OK. The resistor will provide adequate signal isolation if you combine the 2nd L/Rs with the Y-connector. This will do.
OTOH, you will not have any HP filter for the main speakers nor any EQ for the sub. These can be added when/if you see the need. |

Would something like this https://www.edcorusa.com/s2m work in my situation?
