Well MF loved the Atlas. Congrats Myles. This will be quite the treat. Please let us know what you think.

Shane...do I remember correctly that you recently pulled the trigger on the Atlas?

I'll be curious to hear your impressions, Myles. I have had a few Lyras- first the Parnassus, and then a Titan i. I really liked the sound of the Parnassus, although that was quite a while ago. I thought the Titan i was very dramatic, but a little too'spot-lit' and made things seem more detailed/analytical than real music usually is- great hi-fi, but I found the Airtight PC-1 to be more 'right' to my ears in my system. You have a Titan i. What was your reaction to that?

I don't know if it was AT PC1 or a bad match with my arm (I don't think so) but it didn't sound good in my system. Actually the Haniwa, Titan i and ZYX sounded better in my system and I sold the PC1. In my system, as I've written, the PC1 was slow, undynamic and very dark.

Yes will be interesting to hear it against the Titan i, ZYX and eventually the Ikeda.

Hmm, i don't question your experience, and I could see how the cartridge could seem dark or sluggish. Perhaps it is system-dependent, because others have said they couldn't make the Airtight sound good either. It works for me, and I'll still look forward to your read on the Atlas. I gather that you liked the Titan i, which I couldn't fault, I just found it too "much" in the sense that it exaggerated things. (Or maybe to my ears, in my system, dark is good). As a baseline if you find the Atlas less analytical than the Titan i, I'd probably like it. Doubt I'll make a change until after I move and get resettled. (And I can easily add another arm at some point thereafter if I want to do yin/yang)..

According to Michael Fremer in the May Stereophile (the review is not up on their site yet), the Lyra Atlas was more natural sounding than the Titan. I think as a general comment, it seems the newest Lyra carts (Delos, Kleos and Atlas) are less spotlit up top than their predecessors and sound more natural and coherent.
