Default May have to sell Ref40 due new disc player

Hi, today I will have fresh 6550c installed in my 2000 hours Ref40.
$200 for a pair of ARC 6550c+ 3 month waranty.

However, I have a feeling that soon I may have to sell Ref40.
Don't want to, but I order new disc player already, and it happen
to have pre-amp built-in. from block diagram, I guess its internal
preamp cannot be bypass via XLR output, only RCA can do. So
there is no way to connect it to Ref40 balanced, without having
cascading volume control. I just hope that my new disc player
pre-amp section will be just as good as Ref40. also pre amp section
of my new source doesn't seem to have Processor/Theather bypass too.
Gonna be headache to integrate it into the current system.

However, before selling Ref40, I will take as much time as I need to
compare performance between various connection methods. Hopefully
in the near future ARC will make an even better one than Ref40, so that
I will not sorry too much to sell it.

Toga

I wonder which cd player could have a preamp section as good as the REF40, except for a Burmester one....

+1.

It is highly unlikely any pre-amp section in a CD player will perform at the level of the Ref40. It may be close though.

I am pretty confident the ref40 will make better music than the cd player pre.

It is good you are going to listen to the differences first

My new disc player, actually not really a disc player, is Burmester 111, and I found new information, from German version of block diagram posted in Burmester website, I may misunderstood the diagram, but for English version posted by Masterlu in Burmester forum, I am sure I can bypass internal volume control and still outputs thru XLR output. but with inverted phased. Still not sure about theater mode though, if 111 doesn't have it, I will be headache integrated surround processor to the system, in case I don't use Ref40.
I will see, between running thru Ref40 or 111 direct feed to Moon W7M which one is
better for my taste. If proved better direct feed, selling both Ref40+W7M will give me good $$$ to find my dream amps..

Burmester makes world class electronics, but still I would be curious to hear your conclusions.

I doubt that even the Burmester preamp section within a cdp will make music as good as the ref 40. You are, after all stuffing everything into one box.

I tried feeding my Ayon CD5S which also has an analog preamp section to my ARC Ref5 and it just didn't sound good to my ears. So I can see where the OP is coming from.
