HiFi Tuning fuses in a power conditioner is something I have not tried. I suggest you experiment with fuse direction and let your ears determine what sounds best. Spend some time listening to a familiar recording then make the change and listen to the same recording again. Do the test more than once with other familiar music. You should be able to zero in on which direction the fuse sounds best. Let us know what you discover.

If you don't mind letting us know, what is your first name?
Thank you guys! My name is Angus.

Actually I have tried both directions but can not really figure out which way is "overall" better,
or which is the correct sound the fuse will bring. Also I guess it needs time to burn in.

But in the meantime I still would like to know the experience from P10 or P5 user~

Thank you~

d8953903.......As I said, no experience with upgraded fuses on the P10. What I do have experience with is using upgraded power cords with the PS Audio Power Plant Premier. When I changed the stock power cord for a Wireworld Silver Electra power cord there was an improvement in my system's resolution, particularly in the lowest octaves. Bass frequency energy seemed stronger, more prominent, and richer in tone. I went back and forth from the stock power cord to the Wireworld Silver Electra power cord and each time the Silver Electra was feeding the Power Plant Premier the improvement was audible. Knowing this leads me to believe that a fuse upgrade to your PS Audio P10 would most likely benefit your performance in a similar manner as has been described by many others who installed upgraded fuses with amplifiers and preamps.

This post is running pretty good for being a few years old. Love it.

Dan,

I have a set of 2301's and was wondering what spec fuse from HiFi tuning did you order. Is it a 5x20 silver? My experience with Hifi tuning was when I was stationed in Germany we built a house and I bought 4 netzschalter/sicherung, essentially audiophile power panel breakers. The I experimented with gold and rhodium fuses(sicherung) on those 4 20 amp circuits. HiFi-Tuning Index

To say they did not work for me would be an understatement. In fact my "tuned" room in Germany was my reference room, haha. Anyway, I looked for the equivalent of audiophile breakers here in the US, nada, zilch. So, these next normal, if they can be called that, are the next best thing for me regarding tuning my system here in the US. I do have custom made Tempo electric furtutech F50 Carbon power cables running through a PS10 providing life support to the 2301's.

Any information on the specific style (rhodium, gold, silver) that you chose and for what reason would be helpful. Thanks.

Nick

Nick.......I am using the Hi-Fi Tuning Supreme fuses in all of my McIntosh preamps and power amps in my living room system and studio system. The Hi-Fi Tuning Supreme fuses are constructed from an alloy of 99% Silver impregnated with 1% 24 Karat Gold. It is said that the Gold alters the crystalline structure of the silver and contributes to maximizing its electrical conductivity. The fuses are also cryogenically treated. I am not an electronics engineer or a metallurgist so I will have to defer the technical speak to HiFi-Tuning of Berlin, Germany.

The Hi-Fi Tuning Supreme fuses in my MC2301 amplifiers are the 5mm x 20mm size (small) and are rated T8A.

Does anyone know offhand the physical size of the fuse for the McIntosh MC501 amplifier? It is 8A according to the service manual but can't seem to find the physical size. I'm guessing it will be the "small" (5mm X 20mm) but can't be sure. Pulling the amps out to check isn't exactly convenient...

Pete.......Pulling an amplifier out to check the size and amp rating will be more convenient than ordering three fuses of the wrong size or rating and trying to return them.
