Interesting Observation in "The Room"

Yep, phase tricks on the recordings like "Q" sound will amaze you when even a stereo pair of speakers are properly setup and a room is treated. A full 5.1/7.1 setup can do even more.

I have been rediscovering just about every CD that I own in my theater room in 2 channel mode as well. The soundstage is so enveloping and there is so much air , ambiance and "spatial" information in the recordings! It's amazing how much more you get from a treated room.

The other thing I really enjoy is the bass qualities, bass that you feel and not hear. Since my whole theater is made up of bass traps, full round, half round and acoustic soffits, as well fully floated walls and ceiling, it soaks up bass to such a degree that it takes the room out of equation. The bass impulse kicks you like a mule in the chest but there is no overhang or bloat to follow the impulse. Kick drums kick you in the gut and disappear quicker than lightening. It redefines the "quick and tight" bass cliche.

I'm so happy I went "full bore" with ASC products from the construction phase down to the last treatment. I've never enjoyed 2 channel/multichannel like this in my life!

I'm very happy with my video aspect as well for now, JVC/Stewart but having experienced Wolf Cinema projectors I am forever dreaming of the day I may upgrade!

I am hearing what can only best be described as "overhead imaging". I first experienced this effect with "Master & Commander" during the begining attack scene. You can distincly hear the running of feet above your head from the front screen to the back of the room.

Mind you, I have no ceiling mounted speakers for my Theater system, although it is a true discrete 7.1 (technically 7.4 with four subs)

Last night, once again while watching "Priest" there was a definite, and detailed soundstage above your head.

This phenomena simply adds to the realism of being immersed in the film.

Thought I would share my findings. Oh, and I'm not on any meds either.

I remember hearing the same thing years ago when the DVD first came out. I was probably running a 7.1 setup at the time as well. I got my Lexicon MC-12B in January 2004 so I would have been running 7.1 since then. The soundtrack of that movie is exceptional. I haven't heard the Blu-ray yet.
