Default C7 Corvette Grand Sport vs 911S

Not sure if this was posted here before but I found the video interesting enough to share. I think back in the day it would have made less sense to compare the two since cross shopping between the two would have been a rare instance. You were either going for a Porsche or a Corvette. The main reason was the price, fit and finish and the heritage and pedigree of the two that would appeal to one but not the other enthusiast. That's not to say anything bad about either car!

I personally think the C7 generation has changed that and it is quite feasible to actually give both a serious thought when looking for a sport car with daily driving capabilities. The fit, finish, the the interior quality and choice of materials of the C7 as well as sheer capability, power and price to performance ratio, puts the American icon that much closer to the number one German rival.

I have had the pleasure to own a few of the Corvettes over the years and a few Porsche cars as well so I can reflect back and compare and contrast. If I was out shopping for a sports car right now, I think the C7 vs 911 would not be an easy choice. Yes, the Porsche is still more $$$ but the gap is closing considering a well equipped Grand Sport is also some $90k which is not chump change. It is not the absolute bargain the Corvette used to be by comparison. Proportionally speaking, the ratio is close to what it always was in the price difference between the two. Enjoy the video and chime in with your thoughts on the topic. Let's have a discussion.

I watched that before, and my thoughts are that the Corvette evolved from muscle car to sports car beginning with the C5 when they went to saddle tanks and moved the trans to the rear for better front to rear balance. The C6 improved with more sophisticated handling and better fit and finish, but they got serious with the C7. I still prefer the looks of the C5/C6, but the C7 is a different animal. I'm comfortable with my wife driving our C5 Convertible, and considered a C6, and then a C7 but after driving them I'm a bit concerned they might be too much for her, and she can drive! The C6 was definitely a step up, and the C7 is a real move in handling, performance, and fit and finish etc. The 911 is still a wonderful sports car in overall fit and finish and overall driving experience, but the C7 grand sport is very close for less $$, and is new, not revamped technology. This is not a knock on the 911 but the basic chassis design has been around for a long time, and I personally prefer front or mid-engine placement if the vehicle is balanced in design. That being said both are amazing cars to drive, and I would love to own either.
Regards,
Jim

I am not surprised by the results. The C7 is a game changer. I had 2 997 cars and a 991 and my C7 Z51 as well as my C7 Z06 handles better . They are both great cars but I really like the looks of the new Z06.

As for Serge's topic at hand I see Porsche and Corvette as both being great cars. While I have owned 6 Corvettes over the past 40 plus years I've owned but one Porsche and enjoyed them all.

As for the video and the comparison, Serge I disagree with respect to Vette closing the gap on price.........Porsche just gets pricier and pricier. The Carrera S in the video is priced greater than 50% over what the Vette is. Granted the Corvette is getting more expensive but closing the gap......not.

Hopefully Craig will chime in here since he is a proud owner of a new GS for if anyone can show me a Porsche priced under 100k that compares I'll be shocked !

One thing that I disagree about in the video is why they liked the GS more than the Z06 ? The Z06 with the right driver will outperform both the cars in the video.
