Default Advice on power cable selection

Hi All,

I am keen to purchase a full suite of Shunyata power cables and I was reading through the Shunyata Component Guide (http://www.shunyata.com/images/pdf/p...nent_guide.pdf) in an attempt to decide on what options are available.

Hoping to get some input from other Shunyata Owners on the below options. Trying to find a balance between performance and cost.

Cheapest to Expensive

ARC 5SE Preamplifier to P10
-Alpha Analog, Alpha HC or Sigma Analog?

ARC 75se Amplifier to P10
-Alpha Analog, Alpha HC or Sigma Analog?

PS Audio Transport to P10
-Alpha Digital?

PS Audio Directstream DAC to P10
-Alpha Digital or Sigma Digital?

PS Audio Powerplant P10 to Wall
-Alpha HC or Sigma HC?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I have a similar setup. I went with the Alpha High Current everywhere. I was told that the HC was slightly better than both the Digital or Analog. If I remember it was because of the shielding. I also use a Shunyata Triton power conditioner on my front end. Shunyata is a excellent match with Audio Research gear.

I use Sigma HC between my wall and amp, wall and Triton v2 and Sigma digital from Triton v2 to my cd player. All others are the older generation Anaconda. I will say without hesitation that the Sigma HC on wall to amp was by far the most effective pc upgrade I have ever made. If you get just one Sigma HC, put it there. The Sigma is not as cost effective in any other location (in my system) although it remains a great product.

So it seems the most cost effective vs. performance configuration would be:

Sigma HC for P10
Alpha HC for all other units.

I would also agree.

I use a Sigma HC from the wall to my Triton V2. Then I use several different versions of the Alpha cable depending on the equipment. Knowing what I know today I would have used all Alpha HC.

Remember that Shunyata has new cables coming that have been announced. You may want to check these out before you decide.

The new power cords will make it much simpler to pick from. There will be Delta, Alpha, and Sigma.

They apparently will come in two versions: NR for noise reduction and EF for extreme flexibility. Only the NR versions will have the CCI noise reduction filters built in.

Therefore your choice will be an Alpha NR or a Sigma NR when they become available.

Awesome information thanks! Depending on the potential benefits of the new 'NR' range, I may just go for the older series and save a few $$$.

Hi Audiohippo:
I have never plugged my amp into a power conditioner. I use my Triton for all gear but the amp. The ARC amp power supply can handle going directly into the wall outlet in my set up. If you choose to plug the amp into the P10, then I would try the Sigma between your P10 and amp. Then try it from the wall to your P10. My guess is the first configuration will work better. Good luck.
BTW don't be afraid to try the amp directly into the wall with the Sigma. It has tremendous noise filtering capabilities built in.

I would highly recommend Sigma cables. I started with Alpha and have upgrade most to Sigma and I am amazed at the difference!

ARC 5SE Preamplifier to P10
-Sigma Analog

ARC 75se Amplifier to P10
- Sigma HC (direct to wall)

PS Audio Transport to P10
-Alpha Digital

PS Audio Directstream DAC to P10
-Sigma Analog

PS Audio Powerplant P10 to Wall
-Sigma HC or the new Sigma EF if you get Sigma's above

The older Sigma's should be able to be purchased for a bit of a discount right now.
