New Car in Terry's garage as of February 22nd 2017 ...

I have a 2016 Golf R. The car did not come with run flats. It came with no spare tire and a can of fix a flat and a compressor. I ordered the VW European trim kit from Latvia and bought a spare tire for an Audi. This is the exact set-up that the European Golf R's come with. Took me about 15 minutes to remove the old trim, put in the new trim, and fit the subwoofer into the spare tire. Perfect fit! Without the European trim, the spare would not fit into the space.

My first plan is to still call roadside assistance if I get a flat, but felt much better having a spare just in case I needed it in some rural area.

Car is now 13 months old and I still look forward to driving it every day! Taking off the 17 inch snow/ice tires and putting the 19 inch summer tires back on in about 2 weeks. Once I do that, it might be time to try the launch mode....

Congrats on the new VW. I had a Golf back in the mid 1980's. That car was a ton of fun. A buddy of mine had a Rabbit GTI and that was tonne of fun also.

It's nice to see the 2017 version retains it Golf heritage from the 1980's.

Guys,

I went back and did an edit and (Removed) my comment that the 2017 Golf R I purchased had Run-Flat-Tires.

It does "Not" have run-Flat-Tires my baddddddddddd

I realized later and after closely looking at the side of the tires they are not Run-Flats.
I think the reason I thought it had them was when I was shown the sub-Woofer in the spare-tire-valley.
So without looking I figured it must have run-flats.

So, now that we have that completely cleared up.

We both really are enjoy driving it everytime we are in it.

And it will move when you put your foot into it.

It is real Strong in Mid-Range Power.

Its ability to move when you put your foot in it was probably the biggest reason I didn't get it. I'm going to have a problem avoiding tickets with the GTI - those problems would only be worse with 60 more horses if I recall correctly. Great cars though, either way.

Your right if one does not pay close attention you would certainly draw unwanted attention.


I looked the other day and saw 110 MPH as I got fed-up with someone right on my butt on the interstate and decided to simply leave that driver/vehicle in my Rear-View-Mirror.

It just took off once it got into mid-range and was gone ............

It's a fun machine !!!

And so is the GTI.
